While I was at the Sundance Film Festival this week, I ran into Jamie Greenberg, makeup artist extraodinaire who's here to work with actresses such as Amy Ryan, Felicity Jones, Elisabeth Moss, and Leslie Bibb and asked her a few questions about avoiding dry skin and chapped lips during ultra-cold weather.
RS: How do I stay moisturized in this harsh cold?
JG: Here at Sundance, I pull out the big guns when it comes to moisturizing! You have to prepare at night for the next day. I like to smooth on Creme De La Mer's Ultrarich Cream. This is a magical cream that really penetrates the skin and mositurizes like no other. Using heavy moisturizer at night and in the morning will keep your skin hydrated all day!
RS: Any tips for chapped lips?
JG: Think of it this way: gloves are to hands as lip balm is to lips! We use our lips all day (to smile, talk, drink, eat) so it's imperative in the cold that you're constantly re-applying lip balm. And when it's really cold you need a thick and nourishing lip balm. I really love Nuxe's Reve de Miel. Not only is it paraben free, it coats and nourishes the lip like no other balm on the market!
RS: I'm scared to wear red lipstick in this weather because I'm afraid the color will bleed around my lips because it's so dry. What should I do?
JG: The easiest way to wear a red lip in the cold is to use some sort of stain and then add a gloss to it. Otherwise, if you want to use a lipstick, what you should do is create some sort of border around your lips using a pencil like Makeup Forever's Anti Feathering Lip Pencil. It acts as a barrier so your red won't run!
What do you gals think of these tips? Do you abide by them during the winter? Discuss!
