Hair gel ... now that's one beauty product I have not dabbled in lately. Or since approximately sixth grade, when I had scrunchy crunchy perm curls. But Rachel Weisz is making me wonder whether hair gel is just what I need in my life right now. Here's why.
That's Rachel (who I just adore) at the premiere of The Great and Powerful Oz; her hair is slicked back into a simple looped ponytail/bun. It's a hairstyle we've all worn 100 times before--but hers is extra sleek and shiny and free of flyaways--and the reason is good old-fashioned hair gel. The interesting trick: Hairstylist Ben Skervin combed Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Mega Firm Hold Gel ($4, people) through her dry hair. Weird, right? First he did a smooth blow dry, then flat-ironed Rachel's hair and made a low pony. The he combed just a touch of the gel through the tail, looped the ponytail and pinned it in place. He finished by smoothing a bit of gel over the top of her hair to keep it smooth and shiny. Rachel's hair does look a bit product-y, but I think that totally works with her structured modern dress.
So yeah, I'm thinking maybe hair gel is just the thing to sleek up my bun, since I have so much crazy fine baby hair lately (post-childbirth hormones and all that fun stuff). Hairspray's just not cutting it anymore.
How many of you use gel regularly? Had any of you forgotten about this particular hair product, too? Do you ever use gel on dry hair?
