This cool, intricate mani, inspired by Oscar de la Renta's fall 2013 collection, is the perfect DIY beauty project for a night hanging at home. I love a good movie-mani combo, don't you?
What you'll need:
- Your prettiest, brightest nail polish colors
- Quick-dry spray (optional)
- Q-tips
- Nail polish remover
- Stripper or nail art brush
- Top coat
Step 1: Paint the nails blue (Essie Mesmerise) leaving the ring finger and thumb blank.
Step 2: Paint all the nails black (Leighton Denny Maneater).
Steps 3-5: Continue painting only the index, middle and little finger with yellow (Nails Inc Carnaby Street), then orange (Missguided Missmatch), then red (OPI Monsooner or Later) polish. Wait until the nails are completely dry before moving to the next step. Use a quick dry spray if you want to speed up the process.
Step 6: Using a Q-tip dipped in acetone to rub off parts of the nail to allow the under layers to show through. Make sure the Q-tip doesn't have too much acetone on it and rub in one direction to avoid too many stray fibers sticking to the nails. Don't worry if you rub through to you nail, you can just add some of the blue with a small brush to fill in any gaps.
Step 6: Start with the black base painted in step two and paint blue branches with dots attached to the branches.
Step 7: Using a coral color (Nails Inc Wellington Square) add a couple of flower bases.
Step 8: Draw some green lines (Essie Going Incognito) as flower stalks and go over them with a lighter accent green (Nails Inc Ladbroke).
Step 9: Over the coral flowers add a smaller red flower shape.
Step 10: Over the smaller red flowers draw some small coral lines and add a little black dot on the end of the lines.
Step 11: Finish all the nails with a top coat for a smooth, shiny finish.
