Camilla Belle's Makeup Look- Step By step

Many of us were fascinated by Camilla Belle's makeup look at last week's H&M Conscious Collection dinner. The combination of otherworldly skin and a bold eye is noteworthy. Camilla's makeup artist, Brett Freedman, has graciously shared with us the entire process-- products, tools, and technique, along with detailed explanations of each step. Some of the items are old favorites, others were completely new to me (and I'm now on a mission). You'll see that Brett is focused on products that move with the skin and don't pool in crevices the second you smile.

Face Prep:
Heir Atelier primer. Brett  mixes this with foundation using MAC's foundation brush for a sheer, dewy finish.

Eye Cream:
FarmHouse Fresh's Crow Catcher eye serum (wasn't this an Oprah favorite?). This is a great under eye
hydrater that moves with the skin, doesn't look shiny in photos and keeps the area around the eye looking natural and fresh.

Foundation:
MakeUp Forever's HD. It glides on smoothly and really holds up under the lights. Brett applies it all over the face including on  lids and around eyes. It's gives a very good coverage and requires much less concealer.

Concealer:
Cle De Peau in Medium Brett also added a touch of 'spotlight' concealer for extra illuminating using a stick, full coverage formula on the very inner eye, blending outward minimally and carefully to avoid caking in the smile lines around the eyes.

Under Eye Setting Powder:
Brett is a devotee of MAC's Blot Powder and uses it exclusively. He applied it to Camilla's under eye with a small, fluffy brush to set the concealer. It has zero pigment, so it just sets with the least possible
build up.

Face Powder:
Laura Mercier compact in Golden Suntan. Camilla has just gotten back from Mexico and her body was quite tan, so Brett chose this color to ensure her face matches and to give a warm and glowing look. Brett comments that it's a great alternative for a  'lit from within' glow that doesn't look artificially orange.

Brow:
Brett has his own brow product, Brett Brow Duo-Shade powder, which he used on Camilla's rather famous brows ( in Dark Brunette). Since the eye shadow/liner look was going to be so bold, he used it with a light hand to define the arches by going behind the brow hairs. No build out or extending the tail. The brow is vivid, but very natural (for Camilla, that is. Work mindfully if you're not as naturally well-endowed).

Eyeshadow:
Saucebox's Creme De La Creme palette. It's a mix of matte and shimmer neutrals, and there's a to-die-for taupe there. Here's how Brett created the look with the palette:
"I first encased the eye with the taupe/caramel shades. I extended the shadow outward to
soften the eventual liquid liner. I glazed the shimmery silver shadow over the neutrals with a damp brush. Once dried this gave the shadow a light catching, cream shadow look
."
Liquid Liner:
Shiseido liquid liner pen in Black applied in a "dot-and-dash" method very close along the top lash line. At the end then winged up and out, not quite horizontally toward the ear nor too far up to the temple- somewhere in between.

Mascara:
Loreal Voluminous in Carbon. Brett tells me that it was Gwyneth Paltrow who turned him onto this product years ago, and it's still a staple in his kit.

Faux Lashes:
After curling Camilla's natural lashes and coating them in mascara, Brett used Model Rock individuals in Medium on the outer corners. It created the final effect that brought together he liquid liner with the lash line.

Cheeks:
Stila cream blush in Lillium along the top of cheekbones, then set with the light catching LORAC Illuminating powder in Spotlight (a champagne hue) to create a very dewy look. According to Brett, and I wholeheartedly agree, it's important to use a highlighter that isn't too silvery. Best to err on the warm side.

Lip Prep:
Dr. KISS Satin Finish Lip Balm. Not too greasy, not too waxy and gives a nice dew to lips with
a touch of pink.

Lip Color:
Since the eye makeup was designed to be so strong, Brett chose  a soft, fresh lip look.
Tarte LipSurgence™ matte lip tint in Lively (a hot pink) made the base, and then topped with the regular
LipSurgence™ lip tint (a balmy formula with a glossy finish) in Charmed. Both products are in a chubby pencil form.
