If you've ever been hunting for an emoticon to convey your deepest feelings via text message and thought, You know, that little gal just doesn't have my coloring, take heart: The buzz is that Apple is working to make emojis, the popular emoticons people use on their smart phones, more ethnically diverse.
A surprising motivator in this effort? Miley Cyrus. She started a bit of a thing on Twitter by tweeting "RT if you think there needs to be an #emojiethnicityupdate" back in December, and it apparently struck a nerve with users (just check out how many tweets people sent out with the hashtag). How instrumental she was in helping the company make the decision is unclear, but it's always nice when people embrace diversity, so regardless, good on Cyrus for saying something publicly and good on Apple for hearing the call, I say.
We'll have to see what they look like when they debut. In the meantime, are you happy to hear this news? And what's your favorite emoji?
