Are you looking for the perfect makeup primer?
I picked up a tube of Maybelline Baby Skin Primer a while back but I wanted to test it out properly before I wrote a review, and I think its time!
I was very excited to try this product and when I first heard of its release, I jumped on the next bus to my local Superdrug shop to check it out. Here are my thoughts:
First impressions first - I love the packaging - the hot pink and mint green combo is the most adorable thing! But some will perhaps find it a little tacky. The ever-so-practical soft plastic squeezy tube with a fine point from which the product comes out from is great as it minimises product wastage and I know will not break or spill in my makeup bag for on-the-go applications.

The product is a clear gel that is virtually invisible on the skin. It does not provide any coverage nor does it tighten pores like toners. It does a good job at blurring fine ones, creating a smoother foundation application, but I doubt it will be good enough to cover larger pores and acne scars. You can wear this alone for a smooth matte-ish finish or underneath foundation.
On the skin, it feels a little greasy and siliconey. It is lightweight and glides on very smoothly on the skin and sets in about a minute depending on how thickly you apply it.
I find that the best way to apply this is with your fingertips as you can feel the product and areas which may need a little more. I usually take a pea sized amount (not very much), dot my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, then spread it out.
It helps my foundation last longer; I have recently been using NARS Sheer Glow Foundation and MAC Pro Longwear Foundation interchangeably, depending on how long my work shifts are (Sheer Glow for short 9 hour shifts and Pro Longwear for the 13 hour ones), and I find that Maybelline Baby Skin Primer definitely helps with the longevity of wear, but it does not completely make my foundation last and by the end of the day my face starts to feel oily. Perhaps this will not be good for oily skins!
Prepping my face with a moisturiser is a must beforehand as it is not very hydrating and can cling to dry patches! I rotate between Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre, Avene Antirougeurs and La Roche-Posay Rosaliac XL at the present.
In my weeks of wearing this product, I am pleased to report that it does not cause my skin to break out, that is, it is non-comedogenic!
SUMMARY
The good: for fine pores, combination skin, cheap primer, non-comedogenic
The bad: not for large pores, oily skin, dry skins will need moisturising
So is it the perfect makeup primer? Perhaps not. However, it is a good affordable product for individuals with fine pores. If you are more concerned with the appearance of larger pores or if you have oily skin, you may want to look elsewhere. It's probably not the best primer out there, but for every day wear, I think it is good enough.
