Welcome to the first installment of Beauty Road Trip: a series in which we take a peek into the beauty lives of tastemakers around the world—from the salons and spas they frequent to the drugstores where they pick up their lip balm—and their overall philosophy about beauty. First up? Jane Aldridge. Known for her impeccable style (and her fire-engine red hair), she is the visionary behind Sea of Shoes which was founded in 2006; making her a veteran fashion blogger.
Lipstick: Where do you currently live?
Jane Aldridge: I have a condo in Dallas, Texas and I lived there for just a little over two years.
Lipstick: Where do you find beauty inspiration?
JA: There are so many sources for inspiration in the information era we live in today, but I really find it in slowing down, riding my bike, walking my dogs or people watching at a sidewalk cafe. I also look to my beauty icons: Charlotte Rampling, Catherine Deneuve and Francois Hardy.
Lipstick: What are your favorite places to shop for beauty where you live?
JA: Sephora is a great source, but I love Whole Foods too. I also love a lot of the products Urban Outfitters is stocking online. And of course I shop for my favorite Korean products from home curled up on my sofa.
Lipstick: Do you have any favorite apothecaries, beauty shops or boutiques?
JA: 4510 on Mckinney is a great place to sip an herbal tea and try hard-to-find fragrances. My favorite is Kyoto by Comme des Garcons.
Lipstick: Let's talk about that amazing, fire engine red hair. Who is responsible for it?
JA: The cut is by Jessica Watts and color is by Casey at Salon Lucien. I used to be blonde, and I don't know what took me so long to go red. I have very fair skin and green eyes. It was an obvious choice!
Lipstick: Describe your hair routine on a normal day.
JA: I don't wash my hair every day, so on normal days, it's just a light brush through, then dry shampoo, then style. I love Oscar Blandi Restyling Spray and Dry Shampoo.
Lipstick: Favorite hair treatments?
JA: I love to do hair masks. I picked up some really great products on my last trip to Seoul. But to maintain my color, I mix Pravana Vivid Color with my deep conditioner. I've also been obsessed with hair oils. My absolute favorite is the Huile Secret de Beaute by Leonor Greyl. It makes my hair so soft and shiny!
Lipstick: What about your favorite hair styling products?
JA: Sachajuan Volume Powder, Kevin Murphy Young Again Serum, Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray.
Lipstick: What is your favorite weekend beauty ritual?
JA: Sitting under my hair dryer and creating a crazy 70's hairstyle, pampering myself with a glass of champagne, and applying a decadent, moisturizing face mask!
Lipstick: You and your mother appear to be really close. What beauty tips have you picked up from her?
JA: My mom is a fanatic about her nighttime cleansing routine. I have definitely tried to follow that!
Lipstick: Back to Dallas. Best place to get a manicure?
JA: Onyx on Cedar Springs.
Lipstick: Current nail color obsession?
JA: I've been into off-white colors like Limo Scene by Essie.
Lipstick: How about brows? Do you tweeze, wax or thread?
JA: I use tweezers, and do them myself.
Lipstick: Favorite coffee shop?
JA: MudSmith Coffee on Lower Greenville. But I always like have a cup of green tea handy. I drink it plain, hot or cold.
Lipstick: Brunch spot?
JA: Bolsa in the Bishop Arts District.
Lipstick: What is your beauty motto?
JA: Your hair can never be too big!
Lipstick: What is your signature beauty look?
JA: Cat eye and a great red lip.
Lipstick: What is on your beauty wish list?
JA: Nars Matte Multiple, a facial steamer, and Sunday Riley Juno Oil!
Lipstick: What three beauty items do you keep on you at all times?
JA: Rosebud Salve, concealer, and red lipstick. Red lipstick is my favorite, of course!
