As a Kentuckian, I feel it is my duty to push all things KY on you as the Derby approaches this Saturday. So if you're throwing a race-viewing party this weekend, you might want to have one of this hilarious candles rush-delivered to make it complete.
They're the scents the Kentucky for Kentucky Scents of the Commonwealth Candle collection. Here are my three favorites.
Thoroughbred:
The site promises that "when you light this one up, you’ll smell undertones of leather, musk, earth, sweat, grit, and power." So it's probably doesn't actually smell like a horse. But, hey, if it the fragrance does remind you of an animal, all the more realistic your party will seem!
Mint Julep:
Described as "Made with all natural ingredients, these soy wax candles serve up a cocktail of fresh mint and real vanilla-bourbon that will warm your heart and put a little pep in your Kentucky two-step."
And Bluegrass:
The stuff that gives our state its nickname—like fresh-cut summer bluegrass in a candle.
There are a few other scents in the collection: Cannabis, Fried Chicken, and Trailer Park (unclear what the notes are in this one and not sure I want to know). And, obviously, your Derby party needs one or all of them. That and a Derby Pie, which you can technically only get at Kern's Bakery in Louisville—it's trademarked. But you can make a pretty good replica and call it a Non-Derby Pie like this one. Get on it.
