Cereal Filler: Kellogg's Recalls Boxes Due to Glass Fragments

Before you serve up breakfast to your kids this morning, you may want to check the box to see if your cereal is fit to eat.

Kellogg's has issued a voluntary recall of Special K Red Berries in three different sizes due to the possibility that glass fragments have tainted the cereal. It is the second recall within a year for the company, who also pulled Frosted Mini-Wheats and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted cereals from shelves out of concern that the boxes contained metal mesh fragments.

"Please check any packages you have in your home," the company advised on its website Friday, detailing the recall. Kellogg's said there have not been reports of injuries associated with this product.

The recalled cereal includes these boxes:

11.2 ounce packages, UPC code 3800059923
- Better if Used Before Date of DEC 02 2013 followed by KNC 105 with a time stamp of 00:13-2:30

• 22.4 ounce packages, UPC code 3800078356
-
Better if Used Before Date of NOV 30 2013 followed by KNA 105 with a time stamp of 07:00-08:51
- Better if Used Before Date of NOV 30 2013 followed by KNB 105 with a time stamp of 15:00-17:05

• 37 ounce packages, UPC code 3800020940
- Better if Used Before Date of NOV 30 2013 followed by KNB 107 with a time stamp of 17:31-20:05

Kellogg's said packages with the following information are NOT included in the recall:

• Sizes other than 11.2, 22.4 and 37 ounces

• Product with the date of NOV 30 2013 or DEC 02 2013 and KXA, KXB or KXC as part of the Better if Used Before Date

Consumers who have a box of the recalled cereal can contact Kellogg's Consumer Affairs department to receive a coupon for a replacement product.

Will this recall affect the morning meal in your home this week?
