Now that you've weighed in on who had the very best look from the 2014 Met Gala this year (you did, didn't you?), here's a little treat: I got all the details on how hairstylist Aviva Perea created Zoe Saldana's cool updo—before you'll see it anywhere else. Here's what she had to say about the look:
"We were inspired by the silhouette of the stunning Michael Kors dress—it gave us a feeling of a beautiful young woman from Sevilla, Spain."
How she did it: By creating the right texture to create a bun that wasn't too sleek. She says, "I prepped her hair with CHI Volume Booster and held it far away from her hair so it didn't feel sticky or stiff. Then I blow-dried her hair with the CHI Air Vibe Ceramic Ionizing Touch-Screen Hair Dryer, focusing on the roots and not blowing out the natural texture of Zoe's hair. It uses ceramic technology and a touch screen to control the heat and power, which enables you to be very precise with the controls. Then starting at the nape of her neck and working up, I took one-inch sections of hair and wrapped them around the CHI Curling Iron in the 1 1/2" barrel size in alternating directions.
What she ended up with was the perfect texture for an updo. "Once the hair was cooled down, we shook it out and decided together where to put the chignon and pinned it into place. The look was so effortless but still chic, almost as if she had done it herself."
P.S. Her sweet barely there lipstick was L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Extraordinaire in Ruby Opera applied by makeup artist Vera Steimberg using her fingers.
