Makeup Wars - Emerald Green Showdown

This Makeup Wars Showdown is all about the color of Spring for 2013, Emerald or Pantone 17-5641.  Every year, by polling fashion and interior designers about the colors they’re working with, Pantone determines the “it” color.  This year it is Emerald.  And such a pretty color indeed.  A cool green with slight bluish hues, Emerald is a color that will work well with almost any skin color and hair color.  It looks particularly flattering on fair red heads, like myself, so you can understand why I am so happy to embrace this color as we head into Spring.

For this Makeup Wars Challenge, I bring you 2 items from the Sephora + Pantone Universe Collection.  A collaboration with Sephora and Pantone to come up with on trend colors to incorporate into your Spring 2013 look.  Of course, I have been wanting this color in my look for a while, having Sephora produce it just makes it easier to obtain in one fell swoop.

I picked up the Sephora + Pantone Universe Color Theory Shadow Block in Elemental and the Color Charged Graphic Lacquer in Emerald.  Let's take a closer look at these 2 items.

First of all the packaging is always pretty.  It's almost like the packaging is designed by an architect, as it is so incredibly intricate and functional at the same time.

The Nail Polish and eyeshadow palette were just a couple of the many pieces that Sephora + Pantone Universe has released over the past week.  I was drawn to the Eyeshadow palette because of the neutral colors of the main lid and the ability to have the green be the main focal point of the eye look.  Sephora + Pantone Universe offers 2 other eyeshadow palettes, but I felt those were a bit too "colorful" for this taupe/neutral loving Sith.

A close look of the shadow shows that there is one pearl shade one matte shade and one glitter shade.  I found all of the textures agreeable and easy to work with, tho the matte shade is my least favorite (Just because I'm not a fan of matte shadows), the glitter shade is surprisingly pigmented and easy to apply without a lot of glitter fall out.  The softest of the shadows is the shimmer champagne pearl color that makes a beautiful all over wash and could be worn alone for a very nice subtle effect.

I applied the palette in 2 different ways. One, to just give a pop of color with the green as a liner and in the corner of the eye.  Two to wear the green as a main focal point and use it to cover the outer lid in rich emeraldly green sparkly goodness.

The Sephora + Pantone Universe Color Theory Shadow Block in Elemental retails for $26 USD and can be purchased only at Sephora.

Sephora + Pantone Universe Color Charged Graphic Lacquer in Emerald

The Sephora + Pantone Universe Color Charged Graphic Lacquer in Emerald was an impulse buy. I don't really wear green nail polish all that much and I seriously do not need MORE green nail polish...but I just HAD TO buy it because when I saw it on the Sephora website the nail polish came to life and spoke to me. it whispered "Buy Me!"  "Come on. Everybody is doing it."  "It will make you feel good." And then the words "Feel Good" just began to echo in my mind.  It could also have been that I had eaten some bad chicken salad and was hallucinating from food poisoning while watching an old 1980's PSA about not doing drugs...but I'll never really know and now I own the nail polish so what's done is done.  Right?

Sephora + Pantone Universe Color Charged Graphic Lacquer in Emerald

The Sephora + Pantone Universe Color Charged Graphic Lacquer in Emerald applied well, if not a tad sheer. I needed at least 2 heavy coats or three thin coats to get it opaque.  It is a creme nail polish that dried at a normal rate and was fairly shiny before a top coat.  It has worn well and is showing almost no tip wear since my application on Friday with 2 showers and laundry and dishes in between.

The Sephora + Pantone Universe Color Charged Graphic Lacquer in Emerald retails for $10 USD and is available only at Sephora.

LASplash Lid Splash in Poison Ivy

I also used an old eyeliner I had sitting around from LASplash.  I like their liquid liners, called Lid Splash, because the glitter ones are fairly opaque in one swipe, the liners are inexpensive, and LASplash has a TON of different colors too.  This one happens to be called "Poison Ivy". It's an emerald green glitter suspended in a black base.  The brush is easy to use and not floppy or straggly, so it provides an even line every time.

I purchased mine from ULTA, but I don't see it on the ULTA website any more (But that doesn't mean ULTA doesn't carry it.). You can purchase the LASplash Lid Splash eyeliner from Cherry Culture for a mere $5.50 USD, which is a nice price for a liquid liner. They don't have Poison Ivy, but they have a color that is similar called Enchanted.

What is so great about Makeup Wars is that you have an opportunity to view 15 different blogs using the same colors.  You will get to see a bevy of different brands and read different opinions on Pantone's Color for Spring 2013.  So check out the links below and enjoy!
