I’m 32 years old with fair to light, oily and sensitive skin. I take very good care of my skin but battle uneven skin tone (warm-toned neck and cool-toned, slightly blotchy pink cheeks and nose). I like to wear a light foundation on the warmer side to neutralize my pink hue – but I don’t like to look “made-up” or have cakey foundation you can see on my skin. I like very natural foundations that have good concealing abilities, which are pretty hard to find!
When I received the Advanced Mineral Makeup Liquid Foundation in Creme Brulee ($44), it came in a very plain box and was contained in a similarly simple one-ounce pump container. The label instructions read: “Apply 2-3 pumps of liquid foundation to pre-moistened skin. Blend into skin with fingertips to smooth and even skin tone and allow to set. Apply mineral powder for extra coverage and/or sun protection.”
I started out with my usual skincare regime: cleanse, hydrate and then apply argan oil to seal in hydration. Initially, I tried the foundation after prepping my skin. I loved the color! It was perfect for warming up and evening out my complexion. The consistency was very strange though... It was smooth (not greasy), light and creamy – but seemed to dry out incredibly fast during application. I actually had to apply more of the product, which was more foundation than I wanted to wear. I found the foundation was too heavy and dry for my taste; it seemed streaky and didn’t blend very well on my pre-moistened skin.
My solution was to take three pumps of my moisturizer/sunscreen duo (very creamy and hydrating), one pump of my BB cream (in neutral color) that also had primer in it, and one pump of the mineral foundation. The end result? Perfection! The foundation alone wasn’t adequate enough to easily spread on my face. You really need more of a vehicle to move this product over the skin as well as a primer; otherwise it set into my fine lines and accentuated them.
Though this foundation may not seem worth the buy, since I had to mix three products to achieve my desired results, I had concocted the perfect tinted moisturizer with a bit more coverage. I added a little cream blush and I was good to go. I’m a huge fan of this color, Creme Brulee. For anyone fighting their ruddy complexion, this is your new best friend.
