I had heard good things about copper peptides and its collagen-stimulating properties, and couldn’t I help but wonder what it would do for my 50-something skin. With that said, I was pretty excited to review Osmotics Blue Copper 5 7 Night Molecular Repair ($75 in the shop).
Upon opening the first ampoule, the product was thick and blue – almost the consistency of a mask, but glided on and melted to clear. There seemed to be plenty of product to stretch it out to two treatments, but I decided to just follow the directions and use the whole thing for one seven-day treatment. I was a little surprised by the unpleasant scent since lavender is one of the ingredients (aside from smelling good, lavender reduces inflammation). Also, I had read that blue copper can be drying, so you follow application with a moisturizer, but my skin was fine without it.
As the days went by, I kept a good eye on fine lines and firmness, and I must say that nothing seemed to happen. I did conduct a side experiment, which seemed to yield some results though. Every night after applying the cream to my face, I rubbed the excess onto the top of my one hand, the same hand every night.
At Day 4 and Day 7, I asked my husband which hand was softer and each time, without any hesitation, he picked the hand that had the treatment (I didn’t give him any clues!). When I took a second look at the ingredients, it became clear why... The copper PCA (a known skin conditioner), glyceryl stearate, and Caprylic/Trigliceride (a coconut extract) were all to thank for my softer hand.
Osmotics Night Molecular Repair also has a few impressive ingredients that are quite powerful: Carnosine (which has anti-aging properties), Retinyl Palmitate (a combination of pure vitamin A and palmitic acid; effective as an antioxidant and skin cell regulator), Palmitoyl Oligopeptide (may stimulate collagen production and encourage stimulation of hyaluronic acid); and, of course, Copper PCA for collagen production.
My conclusion is that although my face is softer, seven days is probably not enough time to make any real, long-lasting results as far as anti-aging goes, but I do see how it could work to calm stressed skin.
