I have a confession to make: I am a scrub addict.

Whew! It feels good to get that off my chest... Face, legs, shoulders and butt; I scrub them all, probably more than I should – possibly more vigorously than I should. It leaves my skin feeling so great that I just can’t resist it! If I stop scrubbing for a few days, I get weird dry patches and flakes, which only make me want to scrub more. It’s a vicious cycle, I tell you.

Retrospect Microdermabrasion Cream ($50), a facial scrub packed with natural oils (avocado, jojoba, shea butter), fatty acids and Replicine for mild daily exfoliation. Just squeeze onto fingertips and massage gently on your wet face for 30-60 seconds, then rinse. Use once a day for glowing skin.

Easy enough, right? In fact, it was, whether I used it in the shower or by the sink. It rinsed off well; I didn’t notice any particular residue. There was a slight fragrance (clearly noted in the ingredients list as “fragrance”), but not enough to put me off and it certainly didn’t linger.

As to the scrubbiness, it was… well, it was okay. Just okay, really. It didn’t feel great; the granules seemed to be all different sizes and that lack of consistency felt strange under my fingertips and on my face. But then again,  it wasn’t bad either. Just okay. Functional.

As for results, again things were okay. It worked very well on my dry flakes and overall smoothness of my skin improved with daily use. It didn’t seem to do a fantastic job on cleaning out my pores though, but since everything looked fresher in general, they weren’t as noticeable.

Truth be told, those results aren’t all that different than results I’ve seen from other mid to high-end scrubs. Results were quite typical rather than spectacular. Interestingly enough, Retrospect Microdermabrasion Cream does have a rather large price ($50 USD for 4 ounces) and for that, I would have liked a bit more. There are definitely comparable scrubs for less money, so in regards to Restrospect, I’d say look elsewhere.
