When I was sent the Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation, I was excited to try it out as I have recently fallen back in love with my Lancome Dual Finish powder foundation and was hoping to find an alternative to it that wasn't so heavily fragranced and less expensive. I quite like using powder foundation over BB cream. I think it just finishes the look and creates a flawless finish.
According to Make Up For Ever, the creator of the brand Danny Sanz, has been working on this product for a long while and believes she has finally perfected it. I have to say, overall it's not a bad powder foundation. But let me take you through the pros and cons, from my point of view.
I really liked the packaging. Very sleek. Easy to open and it has a separate container for the sponge that is included so it won't contaminate the powder.
The color match for me was perfect. I selected 113 Neutral Porcelain. There is one shade lighter, but it has more pink undertones. The finish was extremely nice and matte without looking too powdery. According to Make Up For Ever, The Pro Finish powder was created with less talc than other powder foundations. As a result, the lightweight formula's texture has buildable coverage with no chalky effect. It is also enriched with hydrating ingredients like aloe and is supposed to evens out your complexion without drying out your skin. I have fairly oily skin, so I cannot attest to the claims of not drying out one's skin. However, I would assume like many powder foundations, those with dry to very dry skin should avoid it as you do other powder foundations. I did find the finish to be matte and less powdery looking than my Lancome Dual Finish powder foundation. It also had no fragrance, that I could detect, so that is nice for those with sensitive noses.
The things I didn't like about this product were that the coverage was lighter/more sheer than my beloved Lancome Dual Finish. For some people may be a good thing. If you didn't like the heavy appearance of the Lancome, the Make Up For Ever Pro Finish powder foundation will certainly work for you. I'm not saying that the powder didn't cover well. It did, for sure. It's just that I felt I needed more of it to get the coverage I wanted. However I will say that even thought I had to use more of the powder, I did find that it was buildable and didn't look cakey when more product was applied. That's a win! So wait. Is that something I didn't like? It sounds kinda positive, right? Well, I can for sure say I did not like the way this power applied with a damp sponge. For being a wet/Dry powder, I found the coverage for the wet application to be severely lacking. Almost transparent. I could not build up the wet application enough to get coverage of any sort for me. That being said, I don't use powder foundations that way. I use them in powder form and not in the wet application form. So yet again. Is that something negative? I'm not sure.
Do you NEED this? Maybe. If you like powder foundations but hate the chalky finish of them, then YES. You need this. If you love the Lancome Dual Finish, but find the fragrance offensive, then YES. You need this. If you prefer more coverage in your powder foundation, then you MIGHT need this depending on how much product you wish to apply. If you were looking for a less expensive alternative to the Lancome Dual Finish, then NO. You don't need this and keep looking. The Lancome retails for $38 and the Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Powder retails for $36 USD. Not that much of a difference. I'm going to use this until it is finished, but I'm still on the fence if I will repurchase the Lancome or the Make Up For Ever when I need a refill. I'm leaning toward the Make Up For Ever because I do like the less chalky finish.
What about you? Have you tried this powder foundation yet? What were your thoughts? Do you wear powder foundation?
