When you look in the mirror, what do you see? That's a question Dove asked of men and women for its new ad campaign that has me rethinking the way I look at myself. In the TV ad, Dove showed a forensic artist sketching the faces of people who were separated by a curtain. He never saw the people he sketched, and they never saw him. His sketches were guided by questions he asked about their features, such as their hair and jawline.
Afterward, he brought in one person who had met the person he just sketched. He asked them for their take on what the person (that he had just sketched) looked like. In each case, the sketch that was done based on new person's account was much more flattering than each person's personal account of how they look.
In the end, the artist shows each participant the sketch they helped create and the sketch made from another's point of view. "I should be more grateful for my natural beauty," said one woman. "We should spend more time focusing on the things we do like."
Check out the video and then tell me what you think of Dove's campaign to focus on our natural beauty! Could it change the way you think about yourself?
