My Favorite...Drugstore Eyeshadow!

I have gotten many, many requests over the past year or so from readers wanting to know what my favorite beauty products are. So I thought I'd do a series of posts highlighting all of my favorite things from drugstore to high-end!
I wanted to start with drugstore powder eyeshadows because there's a pretty big gap in quality between shadows from brands like Urban Decay, Lorac, and Tarte and those from the drugstore. It's unfortunate, but most powder eyeshadows I've tried from brands like Cover Girl, Revlon and Maybelline have fallen short when it comes to pigmentation, longevity, and that soft, buttery texture we all want in a shadow. But there is one exception, and that's L'oreal's Infallible 24 Hour Eye Shadows (around $7). While they're not perfect, here are all of the reasons I love them enough to own 13 different shades...

L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadows have a formula that feels like a cross between a soft, buttery powder and a velvety cream eyeshadow.  Most of the shades are ultra pigmented in one swipe to give you the ultimate color payoff. They're waterproof, sweat-proof and crease-proof and are supposed to last 24 hours, (although I've never worn them that long before). On my dry eyelids, these last from morning until night, at least 12 hours and still look like they did when I put them on.
They feel similar to Urban Decay eyeshadows (which are owned by L'oreal) in the sense that they're silky, buttery and pigmented but they appear to be a loose eyeshadow that's been densely packed into their container with a little disc inside that keeps them from going all over the place. The shades are also very similar to Urban Decay. I've tried to dupe them many times thinking that one looks just like the other, but
The only downside to these is that the formula isn't always consistent...a few of the shades I own go on a little streaky with some fallout and aren't as pigmented, for example Iced Latte and Burst Into Bloom.

Overall, L'oreal Infallible are the closest thing to a high-end eyeshadow I've been able to find at the drugstore. They're soft, pigmented and super long-lasting, not to mention they come in a great range of shades from neutrals to brights. I think it would be amazing if they released some more matte shades into the collection...that would be amazing.
What are your favorite drugstore powder eyeshadows?

Marc Jacobs Enamored Lips & Nails

This bunch of irresistible lip and nail colors came from Marc Jacobs and brightened a soggy summer day a few weeks ago. The shades are rather timeless, but have enough punch to make them fun for summer. And since when can I resist a good red nail polish?

The glosses, Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer, are semi sheer. The texture is among my favorites, not too sticky and very (very!) moisturizing. It reminds me of Cover FX Mint Glaze (do they still make it?) both in scent/smell and in the nice effect they have on the lips. Since the glosses actually contain peppermint oil those of you who are sensitive should avoid it. The colors I was sent are:
Love Drunk- a true mauve with barely noticeable gold shimmer (I had to tweak the lighting and find the perfect angle so you can actually see it). This is my favorite of the three and most days it lives in my purse for touchups.
Moonglow- a beige pink/nude that is 100% not my color, so I haven't tested it on my lips beyond the arm swatch. A friend with a better coloring than mine is getting it.
Uproar- a light orange shimmer that gives my lips just enough color to coordinate with a warm makeup look. It's easy to wear, fun, and can make the perfect orange for those afraid of orange lips.

I already knew that Marc Jacobs Enamored  Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer formula is utterly lovely (I had and shattered Delphine before I had the chance to show it to you). It applies easily and has a decent longevity for a non-salon brand (four days before you see tip-wear). These days I get color gel done on my nails (it's worth a separate post), but I take my own colors to salon for my pedicure, and these perform perfectly (and get many compliments from the techs and other patrons).

Jezebel- Cherry red, cream finish, my signature color. It's as close as anything can get to the glorious (discontinued) RBL Killa Red. Three coats recommended, two are the minimum.
Le Charm- Shimmery peach with extra silver shimmer. It's a bottled summer day, requires two coats. The photo on Sephora's website couldn't be more off.
Petra. A Stunning complex silvered dark purple with some warm/bronze leaning. One coat is enough, which makes me love it even more. Photos don't do justice, and I think I'm going to break a three month red streak and get it on my toes tomorrow.

Bottom Line: Yes, please.

Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($28 each) and Enamored  Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer ($18 each) are available from Sephora. All the products for this review were sent by PR.

There's Now a Washing Machine For Your Makeup Brushes

Washing your makeup brushes just became a lot easier! InStyle has the scoop on technology's newest gift to beauty - the Lilumia Brush Cleanser.

Source: InStyle

Technology is changing the way we live, and if you need further proof, look to innovations like the Roomba or Lilumia Brush Washer, which make the art of cleaning up more in tune with what the Jetsons had in mind. Sure, in theory you could clean your makeup brushes by hand over the sink, but to wash an entire set in just 15 minutes? That's a job we once thought only Rosie the Robot could take on. The Lilumia Brush Cleanser holds six brushes and uses a rotating mechanism in conjunction with soap and water to gently whisk away the remains of your makeup without damaging the metal handles or delicate bristles.

To use the machine, all you need to do is fill the bottom part of the capsule with soap and water, place six of your brushes into the appropriate holders, hit the start button, and let the device take care of the rest. Its rotating core will gently oscillate back and forth in a motion similar to that of your Clarisonic, completely removing the dirt and leaving your brushes sanitized. For pro artists and the makeup-obsessed mavens among us, Lilumia's washing machine is a godsend, though if you tend to stick to the same colors or don't have a massive brush collection, you'll probably be just fine sticking to the hand-cleansing method. Find the machine for $149 at lilumia.com starting Aug. 7!
