These Color-Correcting DIYs Will Make Deep Skin Tones Look Flawless
Whether you are a beauty novice or experienced artist, color correction is a crucial part of any woman's makeup routine. Like contouring, the celebrated technique requires various formulas of different shades to even out the skin's overall pigment. The process seems complicated at first glance, but YouTube tutorials have made it less daunting - and simpler to incorporate into our everyday look.
For women of color, these videos are especially important since our undertones can vary widely, especially on certain areas of the face. For instance, while the under-layers of your T-zone may be yellow, the chin and temple areas may have a dark salmon hue. When this happens, it's essential to choose color correctors for each of your complexion's needs, whether you want a palette or a single correcting concealer.
If you're makeup obsessed and are rocking a deeper skin tone, read on! These eight YouTube color corrector tutorials will brighten up your day.

FotD- A Highly Highlighted Look
This was my look for a Sunday outing to Cold Spring, NY. It was a cold(ish) day but spring is already in the air and I wanted some brightness and a little shine. I was also inspired by a makeup adventure from the previous day, when I allowed my best friend a free reign over my face. That's a story that may become a separate post. For now, we're discussing this kind of shiny makeup look.
Face
Rouge Bunny Rouge Original Genesis Primer.
YSL Touche Eclat foundation (new formula) in B50 Honey. Yes, I know I owe you a gazillion foundation reviews and comparisons. It will happen soon.
Smashbox 24 Hour Concealer in Light/Neutral. Another review in the works. It's an interesting product.
Laura Mercier Universal Powder for setting.
Eyes
Youngblood eye primer. It's a very good one, but requires a light hand and careful blending as it can be drying. It makes everything stick to it for 18 hours.
Benefit Shy Beam used under the eyes for brightening and even a slight color correcting. It's much better than I anticipated.
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder under the eyes. You can't beat a classic.
Two colors from Studio 10 i-Definer palette (review soon): a light matte highlighter under the brow, a matte gray/taupe in the crease.
On the lids I used two eye shadows from a new-to-me indie American brand Strobe Cosmetics (another future post), the colors are Room 64 and Strongman:
Youngblood Marron eyeliner pen (press sample), which has started to rapidly dry out by the third and fourth use. Too bad, because I loved the shape and size of the tip. I will post a comprehensive Youngblood review soon,
Clinique High Impact mascara. A staple for at least a dozen years. I always always always have a fresh tube with me.
Brows
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Medium Brown. Very lightly used, mostly to put the tail end on eual tems with everything else. A brow post is in the making.
Cheeks
Le Metier de Beaute blush in Echo. If I'm ever going to hit pan again on a blush, this would be it.
Anastasia Beverly Hills single highlighter in Starlight. Another upcoming post will discuss the mystery of Anastasia's highlighters. If only I could make the cats earn their keep as my assistants.
Lips
Essence Cosmetics lip liner in Soft Berry 05. I used it to line and fill the lips, so I could retain some color after lunch even before reapplying my lip gloss. It's a drugstore brand that I picked on a whim at Ulta. Best $1.99 I've spent in a while.
Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer in Love Drunk.
Other Stuff
Hermes Scarf from around eight years ago.
SotD Parfums MDCI Nuit Andalous. The tuberose is strong with this one.

This Beauty Icon Is Getting Her Own Line of Curly Hair Products
Every culture has its beauty icons, and when it comes to black women and their hair, there is no greater name than Madam C.J. Walker. This pioneering Southern woman was born before the turn of the last century and transformed from laundress to the creator of her own namesake beauty products, becoming the first American female self-made millionaire. Now the legend will become a househould name for another generation.
Sephora is exclusively launching Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture, a new hair care line inspired by her legacy. Playing around with the products confirms they're every bit as nourishing as you'd expect, focused on protecting the health and integrity of hair. The family-owned-and-operated company packed the products with rich oils, but the formulas are practically weightless and hydrate, exfoliate, treat, and hold effortlessly.
The line features four collections - three for styling, one for treatment - and 25 products. Each are loaded with antioxidants and dual oil encapsulation technology that smooth strands, ward off humidity, define curls, and more, all without making hair feel heavy or greasy. Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture even eradicated the need for silicones, incorporating brassica seed oil (derived from broccoli!) as a natural alternative for incredible shine.
I've selected my favorites from the historical hair maven's line. Each one is reasonably priced, effective, and a true indulgence for your mane, so get in there and find a few things to love!

Whole Foods Sells Peeled Oranges In Plastic Containers, World Revolts
Whole Foods encourages shoppers to bring their own shopping bags and prides itself on an ability to provide healthy options to shoppers in the best possible way. But a recent packaging flub is making us shake our heads.
A photo of peeled oranges sitting in plastic containers at a Whole Foods location in California, or rather, an utter misuse of packaging, sent the Internet abuzz when it was posted to Reddit with the caption, "Are people really that lazy nowadays?"
Much like the reaction to the asparagus water debacle of 2015, when the brand came under fire for briefly selling water with stalks of asparagus submerged inside, many Twitter users were quick to question the brand's motives. Nathalie Gordon tweeted: "If only nature would find a way to cover these oranges so we didn't need to waste so much plastic on them."

— Nathalie Gordon (@awlilnatty) March 3, 2016
Among the over 17,000 retweets which included other instances of stores foregoing produce's natural casing for something synthetic, came a response from the brand itself. In a Tweet, Whole Foods apologized for the unfortunate packaging, vowing to pull the oranges from the shelf and "leave them in their natural packaging: the peel."
@awlilnatty Definitely our mistake. These have been pulled. We hear you, and we will leave them in their natural packaging: the peel.
— Whole Foods Market (@WholeFoods) March 3, 2016
A spokeswoman from Whole Foods further explained to The Huffington Post, "This was a simple case where a handful of stores experimented with a seasonal product spotlight that wasn't fully thought through. We're glad some customers pointed it out. We heard them, pulled the product, and as you'll see from the Twitter feed, the response has been very positive."
Look, we get it. Peeling oranges can be a daunting task, almost as much as say, boiling your own eggs or chopping up your own celery. But orange you glad this product got taken off the shelf?

Do Bernie Voters Hate Hillary?
First of all, for many Hillary voters, their reasons for supporting Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders were more about history, name recognition, and a personal connection rather than positions on actual issues, with one voter actually citing "Billary" as the reason she voted for Hillary:
Additionally, for at least one interesting Republican, Benghazi and Hillary Clinton's email server are the top reasons NOT to vote for Clinton in the fall, if she is the eventual Democratic nominee:
At the official Boston-area Bernie Sanders Super Tuesday results event, I asked Bernie supporters whether they disliked Hillary Clinton as a person, and the results were...mixed:
Lastly, an important question in a race that is increasingly uncertain heading into November, I asked Bernie supporters whether they vote for Hillary Clinton if she is the eventual Democratic nominee. Here's what they said:

5 Tips For Better Productivity Without Sacrificing Time Or Money
I have purpose, passion and a plan but with complexities of life slinging obligations, appointments, and deadlines in my path I lose focus far too quickly and find a daily to do list impossible. It is far too naïve to say slow down and all matters will resolve themselves. Life does not work that way but there is a way to learn how to slow down and still accomplish all that one has set up to do and make sure it is done well and within your financial threshold. Here are 5 small yet effective changes that can bring about massive results in slowing down the madness and the money so you can be a more productive person.
Meditating
Meditation is the state of deep peace when one's mind is calm and silent. The mind is free of scattered thoughts and the art of meditation develops ones clarity, concentration, and emotional positivity. Heck, there is even an app for it! More like quite a few with soothing sounds and calming visuals to bring you to that point of calm. Once you master or even begin incorporating meditation into your daily routine clearer thoughts invade your chaotic world and allow you to process daily tasks and needs.
New to meditating? Try Meditating for beginners
It is a time for self when most of us claim that time during expensive getaways, spa treatments, or even excessive shopping. Meditating is a far less expensive self-rewarding moment in time that gives you the pleasure you crave when stress has taken over. A great time for meditation would be first thing in the morning when you wake up, before you allow the intrusions of the day to take over. A break in the day with meditating can bring your focus back too if you find the pandemonium seeping into your core. Whenever you choose to take that time to yourself, use it and fill a need that may have once been filled by material things.
Go Back to Pen & Paper for Planning
Smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and laptops are taking over the need for pen and paper. They are amazing and make life faster and more assessable but as many have found in recent years, it can be a failed attempt at what was simple and really worked for some! In a past life I carried around my trusty 2 year planner with my life inside from doctor appointments to future goals. Just like many, I ditched that calendar for my trusty phone and as it helped to some degree it was not as lasting or quick as my planner used to be. Yes, it is accessible but I would forget it just as quickly as I booked it. No lasting tie as it is when I write it down. You see, a paper planned appointment is easier to find by simply turning to the page on the calendar and referencing what you need.
Here's one of my favorite planner: Sugar Paper Planner 2016
Paper planners are quick to get into, easy to use and accessing the note function on my phone needs me pulling out the stylus, finding the application, opening it, writing it, saving it, and giving it a title. Halfway through and I am unnerved by the steps! Also, the act of writing it down stays with me. Planners come in all types from blogging to business and one can find a reasonably priced one that serves just as much as a journal with note sections and day to day agendas. I have two. One for everyday projects that get me through my days and of course my editorial blogging planner that keeps my blog fresh, forward-thinking, and focused. Neither cost me over $18 and I have never been more connected to what was going on since I had my 2 year planner.
Enlist in Natural oils, plants, and herbs
From beauty to hair to body, there are products littering the shelves of every department store grabbing at your wallet. You can buy a product for anything and everything and do you really need all that? I have de-cluttered my bathroom long ago by going old school or natural with my beauty and body regimen. I use natural oils like coconut, jojoba, and lavender for every day rituals from cleansing my face to conditioning my hair and body and my body has responded with less rashes, breakouts, and allergies.
Love me some natural oils and my favorite is Lavender oil
From my spray bottle of distilled water and lavender oil to spritz my hair in the morning to my clay mask to detox my skin, natural is often cheaper when you get it straight and not already added to a product. Amazon.com is my best friend for my oils, herbs, and clays and the money I save by creating my own concoctions is astronomical. The real trophy, however, is knowing I am recruiting nature into my daily routine.
Embrace DIY
DIY can be big business but just as it suggests you are doing it for yourself so it can be less expensive than buying commercial. DIY can range from building a deck to simply creating a beauty product with your own two hands and raw materials. Don't get overwhelmed by going for something complex but rather try something small to test the waters. My first and simplest DIY (I still use today) is my lavender water mix for spritzing my hair and toning my face in the morning.
My favorite body scrub when I don't mind spending money: Favorite body scrub
I have since made conditioning sprays, tea rinses, coffee rinses, and even body scrubs but just a simple 2 part DIY refresher spray was all it took to bring me into the fold. The money I save is unbelievable and as products rise in prices it is smart to find new ways to have what you need and want for less.
Not using it? Then lose it!
How many of us are paying monthly bills for products or services we are not using? We forget we have it or swear we are going to use it. Most of the time it is not true so that gym membership or shopping website that you have on automatic billing may be sucking money out of your wallet as you forget it exists and that bill will stay on there forever. That is money wasted that could be saved or used for something you actually need, use or want. It is easy to just set it up but maybe it's time to evaluate what you really need and de-clutter it from your expenses.
Not sure what those expense may be? Start checking monthly if you use that service and if you do not for two months in a row ditch it! It may be more practical to buy the service on a as need basis and save months of billing cycles.
Five simple changes can bring back money to your wallet, time, and simplicity to your everyday living. More often than not it is the smallest of changes that bring about mountainous results.

5 Things All Louise Rennison Fans Know To Be True
I remember wanting to hide the first Georgia Nicolson book from my parents.
I was in middle school, and the neon green paperback blared the words thong and full-frontal, not to mention the mysterious snogging, right on the cover! This was no Judy Blume, where any in-depth explorations of being a teen or exploring oneself as a sexual being were tucked safely in the pages. It was right there on the cover.
I was hooked almost instantly. Georgia, our protagonist, took me through the world of prep school England, rife with friends, hallway nemeses, dreamy lead singers and embarrassments at nearly every turn. Louise Rennison wrote a world that was relatable and yet so far beyond what I saw as my quaint provincial suburban Long Island life.
Rennison, who would go on to pen 10 books about the adventures of Georgia Nicolson (with incredible titles ranging from Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers to Love Is a Many-Trousered Thing) and showed no signs of slowing down with her Tallulah Casey series, died on Feb. 29. With a movie based on the Georgia series and book sales in the U.K. totaling 2.6 million copies, shortly after the news of Rennison's death broke, fans turned to social media to express their sadness, thanking her for showing them a hilariously truthful side to growing up.
Very sad to hear that the great YA writer Louise Rennison has died. https://t.co/EY3kTOI1e9

Oh Louise Rennison. Thank you for making me laugh. pic.twitter.com/aKxgoL7EDM
— lucy (@nopelucy) February 29, 2016
Let's remember some key ways Rennison improved the lives of countless teenage girls through her words.
British teen slang totally beat American teen slang back in the '00s.
At the very least, it was Georgia and co.'s delightfully odd vocabulary that blew my 13-year-old self out of the water. Thanks to Rennison, I added snogging (kissing), nunga-nungas (breasts), lurrrrrve (self-explanatory) and away laughing on a fast camel (still working that one out) to my repertoire.
Also included are expressions of delight, that make me cringe to think about now but really spiced up my old diary entries, like marvy and fabbity fab fab. Rennison understood the intense highs and lows of being a teenager, and peppered the experience with wild words to match.
Having questions about your body is totally normal.
There's one scene in Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging where Georgia decides to test out some intel she received, informing her that one's nipples get hard in the cold. She eventually pressed her own against a chilly window to make something happen.
It was both hilarious and scandalizing to my younger self, but throughout the series, Rennsion normalized the so-called embarrassing inquiries that arise when you're easing into sexuality and adulthood.
Sex Gods are cool, but an Ace Gang is where it's truly at.
Georgia could get carried away with dreaming about her Sex God boyfriend, or even the chummy yet unexciting Dave the Laugh (oh, Dave the Laugh!), but it was her friends -- especially BFF Jas -- who truly had her heart.
She might never admit that out loud, but she knows that boy-stalking is no fun unless you've got a sweet girl gang to do it with.
You're not the only one who feels like a mess.
Sometimes all you need to get through a difficult period is knowing that someone has been there before. Rennison's Georgia was a weird, sometimes-outcast who didn't get on with either the popular crowd or the badass girls smoking in the bathroom.
It's cool as hell to be unabashedly confident.
Still, despite her mishaps and insecurities, it was clear Georgia loved herself, warts (rather, prominent nose zits) and all -- a message that's unfortunately rare among the narratives we receive about teenage girls.
Thank you, Louise Rennison, and may Georgia delight and inspire women for generations.

This Is The Type Of Underwear Most Men Really Wear
With classic tighty whities, boxers, boxer briefs, long johns, men's thongs -- even men's lingerie -- it seems like there are more types of men's underwear now than ever before.
But how does a guy feel about it all (or does he just go commando and forget about it?) and which one, out of all those types, makes a guy feel the most comfortable in his own skin?
We partnered with AskMen (who wrote about what women think on this subject) and polled 650 guys to find out. Here's what we learned:
The survey was conducted on AskMen.com from Feb. 9–10, 2016. A total of 650 men were surveyed. The age breakdown was as follows: Under 18 (2 percent), between 18-24 (22 percent), between 25-34 (38 percent), between 35-44 (16 percent), between 45-64 (19 percent) and over 65 (3 percent).

Pixi Nourishing Lip Polish Review
Decsription: This 2-in-1 lip exfoliator + nourisher helps to repair & protect dry, sensitive lips. Luxe, nutrient-rich formula smoothes lips with shea butter & a blend of sweet almond, apricot, and evening primrose oils. The unique massage applicator stimulates circulation, giving a healthy, plumped effect.
Price/Where to Buy: $12 at Target.com and select Target stores (that carry Pixi Beauty).
Quick Verdict: This is a really unique mess-free lip scrub...I love it!
When I first purchased this, I assumed it was like any other lip scrub...a balm with a gritty texture that I'd apply from the tube and then use my finger to scrub it back and forth on my lips before tissuing it off.
But then I opened the cap and realized that the applicator is the part that scrubs. It has little silicone nubbies that are flexible so they move back and forth as you move it across your lips. It feels really soft and not scratchy at all, and it feels like you're giving your lips a nice massage. Once you're finished, your lips look a little plumper due to increased circulation, although the effect is temporary.
The balm inside is liquidy, more like like a gloss and it feels silky smooth and hydrating. It also tastes sweet, like sugar! There's no mess involved in applying this at all, just swipe it back and forth and then leave it on as a treatment balm. I like to use it just before bed and then leave the balm on overnight. If my lips are extra dry, I'll layer the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask on top.
The Anti-Aging Battle-How to Slow Down and Correct Skin Damage
Skin damage always happens as we get older. Levels of protective hormones we had when we were younger start to naturally drop off. Also, our skin is exposed to so much over the course of each day that it’s no wonder damage appears over time. However, that doesn’t mean you have to just accept defeat in the anti-aging battle. There are a lot of ways
