ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips.

Though I haven't talked about it much, I am really into ColourPop! Have you heard of this new-ish cosmetics brand? It is an online only, super affordable brand of high-quality makeup products. I reviewed a few of the products previously here. The brand offers a ton of products in a ton of colors — or should I say colours? I am dying for them to launch a full-on lipgloss; you know how much I love a great gloss! Until then, I have to settle for their latest launch ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips. As soon as Satin Lips launched last week, I placed my order.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips

Knowing how pigmented ColourPop lip products are, I wanted to try the more nude and natural looking lip shades. I ordered Magic Wand, Echo Park and Frick 'N Frack and tried them the second they came through the door.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips

Magic Wand is a dark nude lip color. Echo Park takes that nude shade and kicks it up just a notch and adds a little bit of peachy color to it. Frick 'N Frack is a very dark burnt rose shade.

Ultra Satin Lips look quite different on the lips than they do swatched. They dry down pretty matte and are much darker than I would have expected. These are not nearly as matte as ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips, but they are not as satin or have as much of a sheen as I thought they would. They feel creamy on the lips though. The brighter shades look to be more satin in the swatches on their site. The pigmentation is incredible as I expected. One swipe over the lips is all that is needed. Being that I prefer a lighter and glossier finish, I do top them off without a bit of pearl gloss like this from NARS or MAC.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips

These does not run at all and it fades naturally and evenly. I'm really impressed with how long Ultra Satin Lips lasted on me overall. I would say it lasted a good five to six hours before I noticed some fading which was very gradual. I still noticed color on my lips beyond that point.

There are 16 shades in the ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips lineup:

  • Magic Wand - light nude
  • Echo Park - light peach nude
  • Dopey - dusty mauve
  • Lyin' King - raspberry
  • London Fog - cool blue-red
  • The Rabbit - bright fuchsia
  • Panda - deep pink violet
  • Marshmallow - lavender grey
  • Mess Around - grey beige
  • Petit Four - deep charcoal grey
  • TooLips - deep plum brown
  • Frink 'N Frack - rose terracotta
  • Tanzy - medium yellow-brown
  • Cozy - orange-red
  • Lost - brown-red
  • Prim - dark black-red

I hope they come out with a real gloss soon!

Each Ultra Satin Lips sells for $6.00. Buy it at colourpop.com.

Glamour's 16 Most Wearable Spring Trends

Glamour.com did a very nicely edited round-up, including what they consider to be the, "must-have" fashion trends for spring.  Do I think you "must-have" patchwork work prints, that hark back to Little House on the Praire??? Certainly not. Ditto for "pajama dressing" and I was surprised and grateful not to see bomber jackets on the list.

What do I like?  Stripes, always, micro-pleats, tiered ruffles, paperbag waists, (perfect for pear shaped Girls with tiny waists and a 'lil junk in the trunk", ticking stripes, cold shoulders and sequins, particularly the latter two since I just purchased a black sequin, cold shouldered Donna Karan gown for the upcoming Red Cross Ball. Yippee! Done and done.

Take a peek here to view the complete slideshow for yourself. Overall, nicely done!

review: MAC cosmetics modern twist kajal liner

{available at maccosmetics.com, 13 shades, $17}

kajal liner is renowned for imparting thick, eye-framing, sooty rims.  it's the magic ingredient behind the simple yet dramatic eyes of middle eastern women.  i love intense liner and even though kajal liners can get a bit messy, i can't resist them.

MAC cosmetics modern twist kajal liner offers an updated take on this traditional look.  the twist-up gel formula offer more control, making it possible to create a thin or build a thick line.   oftentimes such heavily pigmented liner comes with fallout.  however the updated formula MAC has created stays in place for hours.  the color variety ranges from greens and browns to bright white and deep black.  i'm especially partial to grey tide, a sort of platinum meets light brown that reminds me of spring mushrooms.

This New App Helps Dark-Skinned Women Find the Perfect Makeup for Their Skin Tone

When it comes to buying new makeup, the deciding factor in our purchase is usually dependent on how flattering the shade appears against our skin tone. Luckily, plenty of beauty bloggers have helped make this decision easier for us by testing out the pigments of the latest cosmetics in the form of swatches on their arms, but what do you do if your skin simply doesn't match those who are modeling the shades you're considering buying? The pretty tones you see set against fair skin might look completely different on any skin tone that's different from the one being shown, making these seemingly helpful visuals entirely irrelevant for many.

Beauty blogger, Ofunne Amaka, experienced this difficulty after she had bought multiple beauty products that weren't quite a good match for her. "After a number of disappointing purchases, where I ultimately guessed completely wrong about how a product would look on me, I thought to myself, "I wish there was a resource that allowed me to see swatches of the latest makeup products on darker complexions," she explained to us. This realization inspired Amaka to find a way to work around the issue, and help others along the way.

A photo posted by @cocoaswatches on

First, she began by creating @cocoaswatches, an Instagram account where she crowdsourced images of makeup swatches from herself and other beauty bloggers, displaying how the colors would look on each different skin tone. The page was an instant success, causing Ofunne to look for a way to expand on the idea. She then opted to create the Cocoa Swatches app as an extension of her Instagram page, which now includes both original and user generated content to help users discover new makeup products and be able to accurately visualize how the product would appear when applied to a similar complexion to their own.

This new app comes at the perfect time for the industry, especially since it's been under fire for its prominent lack of diversity in terms of product availability and the representation of different races by brands. Although there's been some signs of improvement, like brands adding more color options within their cosmetics lines (thanks Kat Von D!), there's still a lot of room for growth which makes the launch of this app that much more important.

Check out the app, and then download it here:
