Khloe Kardashian Gets Real About Injectables (Plus, a Filler Incident Gone Wrong)

If there's one thing you can always count on Khloe Kardashian to do, it's keeping it real. We mean, you pretty much have to when millions of eyes (and paparazzi lenses) are trained in on you day in and day out. Even in the face of backlash and personal tragedy, Khlo has kept charming us with her unfiltered candor and endearing positivity. She even parlayed her experience in the spotlight—and the nasty critiques that come with it—into a best-selling book.

Which is why her latest partnership sort of makes sense when you think about it. Earlier this week, Kybella, an FDA-approved injectable that can minimize the appearance of a double chin (you can read our full rundown about it here), announced Kardashian as the new ambassador of its "Live Chin Up" campaign, which is designed to encourage women to not let things that bother them get in their way. It's essentially one big celebration of "You Do You."

To kick off the campaign, Kardashian hosted a panel of experts in NYC, and afterward, we caught up with her to hear her real thoughts on how perceptions about injectables are changing—of course, she didn't hold anything back. Would you expect anything less? Read on for her refreshingly honest interview, below.

Lipstick: There used to be a stigma when it came to injectables. Do you think that's changing?
Khloe Kardashian: I hope that it's changing! For me, I don't really care what you do as long as it's for yourself. Even if that's working out—who is to say that a size 2 makes you happy? I think whatever size you are is great as long as you're happy. There's this plus-size model Ashley Graham, who's beautiful and has this fantastic shape. I love what she exudes in her confidence, and I think she's incredibly healthy. There's a difference when someone is eating a bag of Cheetos and a Slurpee saying, "I'm so fat I don't know why." Well, maybe don't eat the Slurpee and the Cheetos. You can still be bigger and be healthy. With injectables and everything, if it's something you want to do, and you have had an insecurity about something go ahead and do it. I wish injectables were treated more like makeup. I'm allowed to contour my face, I have nose contour and cheek contour on, highlighter on, I'm overdrawing my lips, and nobody really says that's crazy. I don't understand why. I basically put on a mask every day. I just really hope stuff like this becomes treated like makeup.

Lipstick: Do you have any rules for injectables?
KK: It has to be in moderation. And I do have a problem with people who get stuff for others. I know friends who are like, "My boyfriend only wants a girl with huge boobs," and I'm like, "Okay do you want bigger boobs?" And if they do, great, but if they're only doing it for someone else that's what bothers me. But plastic surgery and injectables in general, I don't care [what others do], it's not my body. I couldn't care less. One day I'm going to get big ol' boobs. I just need to find the time to do it! [laughs]

khloe-kardashian-pullquote

Lipstick: Have you ever made a beauty move you were scared or nervous about?
KK: I did something once, fillers or something. I didn't really want to do it. My friend was like, "You have to, it's not a big deal." And so, of course, I was the 1 percent who didn't react well to it, so I had to dissolve it all. That's the one time, and I was so nervous, but it wasn't meant for me anyway. Thank God I could dissolve it.

Lipstick: Yikes! What did you think when the reaction started happening?
KK: It took a few days, so at first I was like, "Oh wow I love it!" They say people can become addicted to that stuff, and I could totally see why. It was right during Lamar [Odom]'s accident, so they thought my reaction was because of stress. So then after, I was like, "Come the f*ck on." Of course I had to be the 1 percent [it didn't work on]. But when it was good, I liked it. I just don't know if I'd try it again anytime soon.

Lipstick: Where exactly did you get them?
KK: Right here [points to smile lines above her mouth]. It flattens these wrinkles. I believe in lasers too. I do a ton of those. I think the reason I like lasers more is because I feel like they're less invasive. Maybe. But I will try literally any lasers. I've done it on my neck and my face—even for redness and wrinkles, for tightening and cellulite, anything. I don't know the names of them because I tell my doctor [what my issue is] or he'll see me and be like, "Oh, it looks like you have some sun damage. Let's zap that." And I'm like, "Okay, zap it!" To me, it's like who cares.

Lipstick: During your Kybella panel, you talked a lot about the pressures of being in the spotlight. What advice have you given Kylie and Kendall as their careers have blown up over the past year?
KK: Pretty much, "Just stay true to yourself." I'm really proud of Kylie. She's gotten so much sh*t for her lips, but it was very much for her. That was only about her and nobody else. It was an insecurity she's always had. When I was trying to understand why she was doing that so young, I'd see all of her pictures and she'd always do cute, sexy poses but covering her mouth—that's when I understood. It made her feel so much better about herself. That's all she did, and I'm proud she stuck to her guns. Some people will do it and deny, she didn't address it at first because she didn't know she had to. She was like, "It's my face!" But finally in an interview she was like, "Okay, I did it." It was actually the only time she was asked directly. There were rumors, and we don't like to confront rumors. They would never end if we did that. I'm proud of her for doing what was best for herself.

PS: While we're on the topic of Khloe, we could. not. stop. staring at her hair. It's just as amazing in person as it is in all these pictures.

DIY blackhead remover using glue Thank you for reposting @style.video #hudabeauty

A video posted by Huda Kattan (@hudabeauty) on

No matter how clear we manage to get our skin, there is one complexion foe we have yet to defeat: blackheads. Scrubs, chemical peels, and masks are regular steps in our routine, but those pesky spots remain. The only treatment that ever helps is the use of a pore strip.

Though we DIY this remedy frequently, the brilliant beauty Huda Kattan found a clever hack to re-creating these blackhead blasters with just one product: school glue. It may sound strange, but she demonstrates how effective this technique is in this quick Instagram video. She slicks the sticky stuff over her nose and waits for it to dry, then carefully peels it off. As the glue lifts away from her skin, it adheres to each blackhead and pulls it out, declogging every pore.

Watch and prepare to be amazed, then view Huda's glue tutorial on her YouTube channel.

This Woman Swatched 97 Different Lipsticks So You Don't Have To

Beauty aficionados know a good lipstick swatch when they see one. So when we spotted a Reddit user who tried on 97 different lip colors and took photos of each shade to share with the world, we were completely enamored by this woman. Reddit user Itselyse not only tested out a variety of colors but also different brands, from drugstore favorites like Rimmel London and Maybelline to cult classics like MAC and Nars.

What's even more impressive is that she tried on all the colors in one day and shared some beauty advice on how to keep her lips from getting too stained by the lipsticks. "I used baby wipes in between each swatch to take off most of it," she wrote. "And with the liquid lipsticks and more long wearing products, I used olive oil to break them down."

Though we could see how it'd be hard to pick a favorite, Itselyse revealed that Rimmel was her top drugstore brand for lip products. Her all-time-favorite formula is the Nars Audacious lipstick.

Though this swatch chart may not be representative of how the colors will look on all complexions, it's still pretty cool to see all the shades on an actual pair of lips - and a handy shopping guide for fair, neutral-undertone-complected women like Itselyse. Who knows? Maybe one of the 97 lip colors ahead is your new signature shade.

If You Have a Deep Complexion, You Need to Download This Swatch App

With every new lipstick color or makeup palette reveal, there's one question that every woman has on her mind: "how will this shade look on me?" It's not uncommon for a brand to only use one skin tone to showcase the hues of beauty products, and more often than not, those with medium to deep complexions are left out of the picture completely.

A beauty blogger noticed this lack of color representation in the industry and set out to change the game. Ofunne Amaka said she noticed a lot of the makeup products are often swatched by influencers with lighter skin tones, so to mix things up, she created an Instagram account, Cocoa Swatches, that crowdsources makeup swatches from those with dark skin tones.

"When I started the Instagram page, I just wanted to see makeup products swatches on someone who looked like me," she said.

This idea eventually led her to conceive an app of the same name, where users can easily see curated swatch contents featuring women of color. Once we downloaded the free app, we not only noticed how beautiful the images were but also how Ofunne has created a community where ladies of various complexions can come together to share their stories and love of makeup. Read on to see how some of your cult favorites look on a variety of skin tones, then learn more about the importance of diversity in the beauty industry.

Bankroll Fresh, Atlanta Rapper, Shot Dead Outside Studio

(Reuters) - Atlanta rapper Bankroll Fresh, whose real name was Trentavious White, was shot dead outside a recording studio on Friday night, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office said on Saturday.

White, 28, was shot just after 11 p.m. outside Street Execs Studios in north Atlanta, a spokeswoman at the medical examiner's office said.

The Atlanta Police Department did not confirm the identity of the gunshot victim, but said he was pronounced dead at the Hughes Spalding hospital after being taken there in an unknown vehicle. A large crowd of people fled the scene of the shooting when police arrived, and video evidence has been recovered, the police said in a brief statement.

The hip-hop artist was an associate of well-known Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz, who signed Bankroll Fresh to his independent record label in 2015, according to Popcorn entertainment website. His best-known song was "Hot Boy" from a 2014 mix-tape "Life of a Hotboy".

"rip @streetmoneybankroll atl #legend, infinite potential," 2 Chainz posted on his Facebook page on Saturday morning.

Bankroll Fresh was an in-house recording artist at Street Execs Studios, an Atlanta-based hip-hop firm, according to the company's website. No one answered the phone at the studio on Saturday.

Atlanta NBC affiliate 11Alive News reported that 50 shell casings were on the ground at the scene of the shooting.

The shooting was the fourth involving a recording studio in the Atlanta area in the last two years, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported on its website.

There are probably tons of things in your life that are demanding your attention, and it can be overwhelming. Because your well-being is so important, I'd like to invite you to take a moment to relax. It'll do you good... and help you do better with all those other things.

If you are new to tapping, it will be beneficial to also watch the first episode in the "Tap Out Your Fears" series -- which explains the basics of EFT -- click here.

As with any of my tapping videos, this is an abbreviated process for releasing uncomfortable feelings and enhancing good ones. Some folks may find their fear dissolve after just one tapping session, but for others, it will take some repetition, bringing the discomfort down little by little each time. (Still others may uncover specific issues that are best addressed directly with a wellness practitioner.) In any event, this brief video should help at least take the edge off the discomfort, freeing you up to enjoy life much more. Let us know how it helped you!

Tapping can sometimes bring up long-buried emotions, which is why I state that, before tapping along, folks must take full responsibility for their own well-being. For more information about that, please read this disclaimer.

Bucket List added to at Liberty Mountain Resort
Connie Lawn, February 28 2016

On a beautiful warm and sunny afternoon, I rode a "bucket" down Liberty Mountain in Carroll Valley , Fairfield Pennsylvania. Actually I was helped into a sitski by adaptive ski instructor Mike Caselle and this experience added to my bucket list. I glided down the shimmering mountain on what is formally known as a bi-ski; Blue Ridge Adaptive Snow Sports (BRASS) has a new full size Ferriol-Matrat FMS made in France. It is a luxurious experience, but you must really trust your instructor. He has special training in loading people with significant neuromuscular problems into the sit ski, getting it on and off chair lifts, and holding and steering it as you flow down the mountain. He reassured me that they have never lost control of the sit ski.
There was little work involved on my part, but I did gently bend my body into the turns. Mike helped by playing recorded acoustic guitar music to help me relax and move my stiff body. While this was a great experience, it is not a joking matter. Skiing has been my passion for 50 years, but I now suffer from advanced Parkinson Disease. I do not know if I can ever regain the balance, strength, or confidence to ski upright again. Adaptive programs are perfect for people like me, and for those with birth defects, war wounds, or other disabilities.
The BRASS adaptive program at Liberty and similar programs at other mountains continue to grow. Although this has been a rather short season, BRASS taught about 300 adaptive students this year. 11 injured soldiers were honored at their annual Warfighters weekend. The program is run by Leslie and Dick White and a large group of professional instructors and devoted volunteers; it is supported entirely by tax-deductible contributions. BRASS is a local chapter of Disabled Sports, USA.
Liberty Mountain is growing as a four season resort. This season they added the majestic Highland Lodge to their facilities. It has 17 guest rooms or suites, and is steps away from the mountain and the 18 hole Carroll Valley Golf Course
Liberty Mountain Resort continues to grow. As it does, it brings more revenue and employment to the area. It also brings a lot of fun to those who visit, including seasoned old timers like me!

Therapeutic yoga connects us with a deeper experience.

It was 1985 when I resumed yoga from the Intensive Care Unit of a Scottish hospital. I was 49 years old, 25 years into my yoga practice, and hospitalized with serious injuries after a head-on auto collision.

I woke up with two legs in traction. My hip, knee, ribs, and nose were broken. My lungs had collapsed, a tube was inserted into my trachea and I was on a respirator, unable to speak for weeks or walk for months. During my hospital stay my personal practice included watching the gorgeous dancer Judith Jamison on TV and imagining myself in her body, dancing. It was magic. During one visit my physical therapist told me to 'breathe' and I taught her about pranayama.

Many eye surgeries and orthopedic procedures later, I returned home and my yoga practice went through even more variations. I practiced in my neighbor's pool and rode a stationary bike to rebuild atrophied muscles while stimulating adrenals and endorphins.

Years of incorporating the teachings and instructions of Indra Devi, Lilias Folan, Gary Kraftsow, Larry Payne and the Krishnamacharya Institute in India served and supported my healing. I walked again, took a teacher's training course with Rod Stryker at YogaWorks, and assisted Erich Schiffmann among others. Now I teach yoga full-time with a focus on assisting people with special needs or disabilities. My scars are valuable reminders of how everything that connects us to a deeper experience of the body and mind is yoga.

My Personal Practice

These days, at the age of 77, I practice between 15 minutes and one hour, five to seven days a week. I work out in my home studio, bed, mat, kitchen, shower, and bathtub. I can be found outdoors, on the grass, at the beach, or in the pool. I create yoga opportunities using railings, steps, and stairs.

3 Favorites Poses

Downward Facing Dog
Supported Half Shoulder Stand
Lying Down Twist

I adapt these practice variations to account for my current abilities and former injuries.

Downward Facing Dog

Holding or leaning arms on mat, chair, couch, table, desk, wall and/or railing. My back, hamstrings, and neck all relish this pose.

2016-03-05-1457211300-416624-beaammidownsupportedhalfshoulderstand.jpg

Supported Half Shoulder Stand

Using a block or bolster under my hips. Legs against the wall is optional. Then I practice splits, bicycles, and criss-crosses. This inverted pose relieves lower back pressure. I become very present. I listen. I meditate and I pray.

Lying Down Twist

This twisting supine pose offers an incremental stretch before a release and rest.

Bliss Pose

Shoulder Stand

This posture offers me a new point of view on the world. With this pose, I feel I have fulfilled my ambitions to be an acrobat and ballerina.

Most Challenging

Balancing poses.

Best Instructions

Do not compare or compete. Rest.

How injuries are teachers

I have learned to respect and listen to my body, using each sensation to guide, inform, protect, and educate me as I practice. I am aware I can assist others and teach from the benefit of my experience. Mindfulness is key to this practice.

Last words

Enjoy, smile, laugh, be silly, stop. Rest.
