Drugstore Buy of the Week - Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-In-1 Makeup Remover and Cleanser

For those of you not from Europe, Micellar cleansing water may be new to you.  Micelle cleansing molecules pull oil and dirt away from the face.  The result is that you can gently cleanse skin and remove makeup without irritating or drying out skin.

Micellar water is great for all skin types, including sensitive, dry and even acne prone.  The Water also provides a toning effect to the skin.  For years, many of the best waters were found in French pharmacies, on in airport duty free stores.

But now, Garnier has brought the micellar concept to the US in a easy to use, large and reasonably priced versionGarnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser and Makeup Remover,

I loved using this at the end of the day to remove my makeup quickly and thoroughly.  With just a small quirt into my cotton pad, pressed gently on my eye areas and all my makeup lifted off in an instant (no rubbing or tugging at my skin!)  I also loved how soft and smooth my skin felt after finishing.

For those of you who don't like to do too much in the evenings, but want to cleanse a little more thoroughly than with a wipe, this is ideal, as after you've swiped with the cotton, you're done.  My face was slightly damp for a minute or two, and then it was completely dry.

In the morning, this is also a great choice for those of you who don't need to do a lot of extra cleansing in the morning.  It left my skin very fresh and is a great prep for primer/sunscreen before adding makeup.

Tip: You can also spot clean your makeup brushes with it, in between your more thorough cleanings, every few weeks or so.

Now you know.  Make sure you're treating your skin to the benefits of Micellar water today! - RLB

Purchase Here: Available at CVS Stores and CVS.com.  Also available online: Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser and Makeup Remover, 13.5 Fluid Ounce

Sonia Kashuk Knock Out Beauty Golden Gloves Review & Swatches

I've been stalking my local Target for the past week, waiting for the new Sonia Kashuk Knock Out Beauty collection to arrive and this morning I finally got my hands on the beautiful Golden Gloves Skin Glow ($19.99 at Target). This is the one thing I wanted the most out of this entire collection so I'm really excited to review and swatch it for you guys. Let's get started!
Sonia Kashuk Knock Out Beauty Golden Gloves Review
Golden Gloves comes surrounded in large plastic packaging that seemed a little bit unnecessary at first, but I guess it was done that way because they wanted to display the compact in the open position.  You can definitely appreciate it more when you can see the beautiful boxing glove design that's stamped into the powder.

When closed, the compact has cute artwork on the front depicting the Knock Out Beauty boxing theme, which was done by artist is Dana Louise Kirkpatrick.  The inspiration for Knock Out Beauty came when Sonia saw a painting that Dana created of a fighter in red boxing gloves. She purchased the painting and the idea for Knock Out Beauty was born.
The Knock Out Beauty line promotes the idea that women are the ultimate fighters, and is meant to inspire women everywhere to communicate self-love. Sonia wanted to create products that would make women feel strong and embrace their individuality and each piece in the collection has an empowering message written on it.

The back of the compact is solid black and lists the ingredients and weight, which is .31 oz.

Inside, Dana's golden gloves design is so beautiful I didn't even want to touch it to do swatches for fear of messing it up. I don't think I've ever seen a drugstore powder product that's had such a detailed and intricate design...you tend to only see this at the high-end level. Thankfully, the design goes deeper than the surface and after several uses, mine still looks the same. I think it'll take quite a while for this to wear down.
Sonia Kashuk Knock Out Beauty Golden Gloves Review
Written on the mirror are the words "You Are Beautiful" which is such a nice message to see when you're getting ready and putting on your makeup.

Looking at the powder close up, you can see that it has a pearly sheen, but it's very a fine shimmer. On the Target website, it's described as a "gel powder highlighter that reflects light, illuminates, and leaves skin looking plumper and smoother."

Sonia Kashuk Knock Out Beauty Golden Gloves Review & Swatches

Once I swatched it, I realized that this isn't an "in-your-face" kind of highlight...it's much more subtle, kind of like Hourglass' Ambient Powders. I can use it all over my face without looking like a disco ball and it warms up my fair complexion nicely, leaving it glowing. I tried using this strictly as a highlighter but it was too dark on my skin to use it that way and didn't give quite enough shimmer to "pop" my cheekbones.

On the right, is one swipe of the powder, and on the left is two swipes, so it builds up very easily with a light sheen. It feels super silky and smooth and picks up easily with lots of pigment and no fallout.
Sonia Kashuk Knock Out Beauty Golden Gloves swatches

Here I swatched it next to Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop, which is more gold, less bronze and quite a bit more shimmery. In the past, I've said that Champagne Pop is right on the border of being too dark for me to use as a highlight, but next to Golden Gloves, it actually looks pretty light!

Overall, I really like Sonia Kashuk's Golden Gloves as an allover face powder...it gives me a beautiful, subtle glow and a bit of warmth without adding too much depth like a bronzer would. It's silky smooth and blends into my skin so nicely without accentuating pores or settling into fine lines.

Although it's much too dark to work as a highlighter on my fair skin, but I think it'll look gorgeous on deeper skin tones as a subtle highlight.

You can find the Golden Gloves Skin Glow at select Target stores or at Target.com

Shocking facts about human body you should defenitely know

review: clinique sweet pots sugar scrub + lip balm.

{6 shades, $19.50, clinique.com}
it's an unwritten law of the universe that both sugar lip scrubs and lip balms are addictive, so clinique is probably trying to send me to rehab with their latest duo product.

predictably, i cannot get enough of the clinique sweet pot sugar scrub + lip balm.  pot twists one way for a delightfully gritty and sweet-tasting lip exfoliant, which they recommend tissue-ing off after 5 minutes (similar to the application technique of the kiehl's cilantro and orange extract pollutant defending masque), and following with a swipe of the balm side.  the balm is a buttery, lightly pigmented lip treatment.  i have sweet rose, a soft deep pink.  truth be told though, i just keep repeating the exfoliating step throughout the day because i love the way it feels.  either way, i'm addicted.

It feels really light on and the colour itself has major staying power - the shiny part does disappear though so if you want to keep the glossiness, you do have to reapply. I especially love the fruity scent!

Makeup Tip: A Quick Trick on How to Extend the Wear of Pencil Eyeliner!

woman getting eyeliner applied.jpeg
This beauty knows the value of a little extra step makes to keep her pencil eyeliner lasting indefinitely!

Sometimes, certain brands of eyeliner pencils don’t last nearly as long as you need.  Though as tempted as you might be to toss them, try another brand or just try your hand at a liquid or a gel liner, I have a simple save that will help keep your eyeliner in place without worrying that it will disappear on you through extended hours of wear.

This makeup trick works the best if you start once you prime your eyes with a waterproof eyeliner pencil. Using a softer one like a kohl pencil will work and give you more time out of that one too, but the waterproof pencils are the ideal way to go.  What I do is to take an angle eye shadow brush and dip it in a matching color of an eye shadow powder to dust over the line.  This usually gives me a lot more time of making my eyeliner is intact.

When I need to be sure that my eyeliner won’t go anywhere from day through the evening, I go one step further.  Do pick up an eyeliner sealant.  Once you paint a bit of this clear product on top, the eyeliner pencil is there to stay.

I hope you try this makeup tip when using your eyeliner pencils because you will see an improvement in a lot longer wearing time.

See How Kendall Jenner's Glow-in-the-Dark Eyeshadow Looks On

Ready to do something new with your look? All month long we're asking our 25 favorite influencers to share their 25 best beauty ideas for spring. Look out for the 25x25 logo here on Lipstick and on our social channels—@get_lipstick on Instagram and @glamourmag on Snapchat—for exclusive tips, tricks, and tutorials. Up next: glow-in-the-dark eyeshadow. Read on!

00blacklight

It's official: Kendall Jenner has teamed up with The Estée Edit, Estée Lauder's new younger-sister line, to bring us the coolest eyeshadow palette—we're talking high-tech beauty here, guys.

The Estée Edit Eyeshadow Palette ($48, sephora.com) has 14 different shades (including Jenner's signature browns, which she wears during the day, and her favorite color, purple) as well as varying finishes (matte, shimmer, etc.). "It's all about getting many different looks," says Sarah Creal, the creator of The Estée Edit line who worked with Jenner to conceptualize the palette. That's all good and fun, but the most exciting part is the "transformer" shades: the silver and gold eyeshadows on the far left of the palette that glow in the dark. "They're made with special pearls that are sheer and shimmery in daylight but that reflect back in black light," Creal told us.

As the resident trend trier here at Lipstick, I asked Creal exactly how Jenner likes to mix and match the shades. Follow along as I test out the buzziest new products from the line and find out the answer to the inevitable question—does black-light eyeshadow really work?

NATURAL LIGHT

01blacklight

Step One: As with any makeup look, you always want to begin with primed skin. Right after cleansing, I applied The Estée Edit Rescue Balm for Face + Body, an oil-infused cream, to give my skin a happy, hydrated start. Instead of jumping right into coverage, I applied The Estée Edit's Pore Vanishing Stick (which does exactly that) to give my base a smooth, airbrushed effect. From there, I applied my latest favorite BB cream, Erborian BB Creme, and touched up trouble areas with Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer.

02collageblacklight

Step Two: Time to build up the eye look using the bottom row of shades from the palette—but not in your typical style. "Kendall starts deep, which is very interesting, because a lot of times people start light and then add deeper shades," says Creal. Start out by blending the shades in the bottom right two squares together (in total, four shades of brown/tan), and then apply this combo to the entirety of each lid. Make sure to start with a light touch, because some of the darker shades can go on heavy.

04collageblacklight
Step Three: Next, blend the two shades in the third square from the bottom right, and apply this mix to your creases. Where oftentimes a darker shade is used in the crease to add depth, I found that using this warmer, peachier blend in the crease still created that illusion, just in a subtle manner that mimicked natural shadows.
06collageblacklight

Step Four: Time for the transformer shades! As an accent, apply the gold shimmer shadow to the center of the lids, directly on top of the dark brown base applied earlier. Depending on how much shimmer you want, you can mix in the silver shade as well, add to the corners of your eyes (it's a trick to make them look bigger!) or dot below the bottom lashes. The transformer shadows are very sheer, so you're not going to get a full-on metallic eye here. They're better for layering over other shades to add just a pop of shimmer.

08blacklight

Step Five: Define your eyes now with a couple coats of mascara. My favorite part about The Estée Edit the Edgiest Up & Out Double Mascara, used here, is the fact that it's double-sided. One end has a longer, thicker bristle brush for the upper lashes, and the other has a thinner, shorter molded brush for the bottom lashes—clutch if you always end up with raccoon eyes.

09blacklight

Step Six: Finish off the entire look with a clear, shiny gloss. The Estée Edit Flash Photo Gloss is not just any lip gloss, though. It contains blue iridescent pearls to bring out the white in your teeth. The formula is thick and glossy, leaving lips shiny with no added color. Oh, and did I mention Jenner always keeps a tube in her bag?

10blacklight

True to Jenner's natural approach to beauty, this final look is completely wearable during the day thanks to the neutral browns ("her home base") and the subtle shimmer. When worn at night, though (or in black light, as the case may be), that is when it really comes to life. Drumroll, please...

BLACK LIGHT

00KP2

As you can see, the transformer shadows are subtle and sheer but definitely noticeable. Focused in the center of the lids, they add soft, shimmery dimension to the eyes.

01KP2

RIKP2

But what if you want even more shine? As I was taking these photos, I noticed how surprisingly well The Estée Edit Flash Photo Gloss also picked up the black light, which gave me an idea. To give the look even more of a glow-in-the-dark effect, I decided to add a swipe of the gloss to each lid, and here's what happened:

02KP2

03KP2

RI2KP2

The result: even more amped-up shine. The gloss helped pick up light and made for a fantasy-shimmer finish. So...who wants to throw a black-light party now?

The base color is attractive, but the coverage is a bit light. It’s nicely even, but it’s not totally opaque. The upside to that is that it works as a (very) heavy effects-layer over cream shadows or eye crayons.
