Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil Review & Swatches
Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencils are new creamy eyeshadow pencils that Covergirl recently released. These eyeshadows seem very similiar to CG Eyeslicks but the colors are far more vibrant with shades like lime green and red! I purchased these at Harmons for $5.49 each and noticed the display had about ten shades available. I’m assuming [...]

Foundation Fridays - Too Faced Air Buffed BB Crème Complete Coverage Makeup - Review, Pictures, Swatches
It's been a while since I did a Foundation Friday post and to be honest I think it's because I have not been inspired either way (good or bad) to write anything. I actually purchased the Too Faced Air Buffed BB Crème Complete Coverage Makeup a while ago, tried it out, and then didn't write about it because I had mixed feelings on the whole thing. But before I tell you about it, let me say that the name, Too Faced Air Buffed BB Crème Complete Coverage Makeup is super long and I will shorten it for the sake of MY sanity to TFBBC. We all clear? Good.
So, the TFBBC claims to be a "five-in-one complete coverage beauty balm that perfects, mattifies, primes, moisturizes, and protects with SPF 20." I think that it lives up to most of these claims, but not all of them may be good things for those with very oily skin or very dry skin. The TFBBC boasts a "beauty balm that evens skin tone and banishes imperfections with an air-buffed second-skin finish." That can be debatable depending upon application, but for the must part that is true. How do you get that "Air Buffed" finish? By using the enclosed brush, which snaps into the lid of the product.
The brush is a mini Teddy Bear Kabuki style brush and is very soft to the touch. Sadly, my brush wanted to shed, A LOT, so I switched to a different foundation brush, then another foundation brush until I found one that worked best for me. So if you get this and decide the finish is not as "Air Buffed" as you would like, you might try experimenting with different application techniques or brushes. I found that no matter what brush I used applying the TFBBC in a buffing motion (similar to applying a loose mineral makeup foundation) provided the most even coverage and application. Basically, apply in little tiny circles starting in the center of your face and move outwards. The coverage is buildable as Too Faced claims, but I still find it on the medium coverage side rather than complete coverage. It can cover most light imperfections and can be built up on lighter imperfections by patting on with a concealer brush or clean fingers, but using concealer after application may be necessary for under eyes and other darker imperfections.
I did not see a full "cream-to-powder formula" when I used the TFBBC, but I have VERY oily skin and if you have combination to normal to slightly dry skin you might see those results. I also did not find the formula to be "long-lasting" on my oily skin. I applied this with a primer and without, and both methods did not yield a wear time of more than 4-5 hours. However, with my oily skin that is completely normal when wearing BB creams.
OK. So the TFBBC claims to have 5 benefits. It is supposed to perfect, mattify, prime, moisturize, and protect with SPF 20. I did find that it perfected by evening my skin tone and did not settle into my pores or fine lines. I did need a separate primer to get any decent wear out of this product, but that's because of my oily skin type. I did find it mattified a little, but only for a short time. My oily skin broke through, so I used a finishing powder with this product. Those with combination, normal and slightly dry skin may find the mattifying properties of this product to be superior to the results I achieved. I can't speak to the moisturizing properties of the product because I have such oily skin, but the ingredient that Too Faced claims to moisturize your skin, "Star Fruit Leaf", is the second to last ingredient on the list, so that means its amount in the product is minimal at best. Lastly I do not believe that an SPF20 to be sufficient sun protection especially with the SPF being purely physical (Titanium Dioxide 8.3%). I prefer a 30 SPF or higher with a mixture of physical and chemical sunscreen or purely chemical sunscreen that is photo stable, but that's a personal preference. I also do not rely on my foundation to provide adequate sun protection as it is not always applied evenly all over my face.
How did it feel on my face? Well it did feel kind of makeup-y. It wasn't heavy, but it wasn't "lightweight" as Too Faced promises. It's not bad, but because this TFBBC is NOT for those with oily skin, it did feel as if it was sliding off my face rather quickly.
At least the color match was good, for me. I'm pretty pale, so the color "Snow Glow" described as Porcelain with Pink Undertone was a good match for me, but those with darker skin are SOL (Sh*t Outta Luck). Of course, that seems to be the case with SO MANY BB creams. It's getting kind of annoying now because women of color are not afforded to same opportunities to waste their money as I am. HA! No, but seriously, if any makeup company is reading this. PLEASE start offering some darker and more diverse color selections for BB creams. Oh and please stop calling colors "Chocolate" and "Mocha". So tacky. Not to mention that Women Of Color does not just include African American or Black. It also covers, Latinas, Persians, Arabs, and Asians. But I might write a post about that whole subject at a later date.
OK Back on topic. Do you NEED this? YES, if you have normal to combo skin and are looking for a light to medium coverage foundation that does not need a primer. This is a nice one to have. If you have Very Dry or Very Oily skin, skip this. At $39, it's just not worth the agony over having yet another foundation that doesn't work for you. That being said, this is kind of pricey for a Too Faced product. I wish there was a less expensive option to buy the TFBBC without the brush too. You can purchase the Too Faced Air Buffed BB Crème Complete Coverage Makeup at Sephora, Ulta, Beauty.com and other retailers.
What do you think? Will this BB Creme work for you? Have you tried the TFBBC yet? Love it, like it, hate it?
P.S. To sound off on the whole women of color issue with foundation shades, I do have a question on The Pink Sith Blog Facebook Page about it. Click THIS LINK to give your opinion.

Date-Night Makeup Idea: Emma Watson's Girl-Next-Door-With-a-Lot-of-Lashes Makeup Look
The makeup look Emma Watson wore to the premiere of The Bling Ring in Cannes is basically boy bait. Here's why:
Overall, it's pretty minimal—it's just a mix of lashes that go on for miles, a touch of shimmer that makes her look like she's glowing, and a hint of lip gloss that's not so intimidating that a boy wouldn't want to kiss it. It's soft and subtle yet done.
The key element here? The lashes. Now, I think she might be wearing some individual falsies, but you don't have to get that fancy in real life. The trick to getting a similar look sans fake lashes is to build your mascara in thin layers so they end up incredibly long without getting clumpy on you. This is when wiping the excess off on your tissue first comes in handy. That and having the patience to go back in with a lash comb and separate any gloppy parts. But you can handle that, right?
Who's going to go for something like this this weekend?

W3LL PEOPLE Nudist ColorBalm- reader reviewed and recommended
For the past four weeks I’ve been using Nudist ColorBalm Stick ($19.50) in shade No. 8 (Poppy) by W3LL PEOPLE cosmetics. This is my first review of a makeup product, and I wondered if I’d need a full four weeks just to test a little face paint. As it turns out, the longer you use Nudist, the better your lips look. And my number one reason (of many) for recommending Nudist is how well it has conditioned my lips. My lips are smoother and fuller than ever, even on days when I forget it on my bathroom counter. In fact, ColorBalm nourishes lips so effectively that I’ve concluded that this is no mere makeup, but in fact a healing, nourishing lip treatment that’s as effective as it is pretty!
My lips chap and peel easily, and when I use the wrong product, they can look desiccated. As anyone with chapped lips knows, you become dependent on your lip balm, and maybe (like me), you’ve spent your life hearing “the more you use that Chapstick, the more you’ll need it!” As much as that’s irritated me, Chapstick rehab must be a guiding design principle of ColorBalm: since I’ve been using it, not only are my lips no longer chapped, but I also find myself reaching for ColorBalm only to refresh the color. As I mentioned above, I can swipe it on in the morning, forget it on the bathroom counter, drink too much coffee, and still have a smooth, comfortable, happy mouth.
ColorBalm has also improved the overall appearance of my mouth. I have vertical lines along my lips, which I’ve never minded, and in fact never really noticed until ColorBalm came along and plumped things up, giving me a smoother, fuller mouth. Not in a deliberately agitated, “venom” kind of way, just hydrated and well nourished. Again, those lines never bugged me, but clearly my lips were thirstier than I thought.
If you’ve been reading the news, you know that many lipsticks are still formulated with lead, cadium and other toxins, and thus remain a wear-at-your-peril proposition. Nudist ColorBalm, on the other hand, is 100% natural, free of the usual criminal additives – including silicones, nanoparticles and sulfates. Instead, it’s filled with aloe, beeswax, EFAs and green tea. Most of the ingredients are certified organic, and each and every one checked out as safe according to EWG’s cosmetic database and the GoodGuide.
Color Balm does take just the littlest bit of getting used to. It doesn’t glide on the way most lipsticks do, and is more waxy than oily (though by no means candle-like). But even though it doesn’t have that Vaseline-like, slip-and-slide quality, it warms on your lips and the moisture and protection are long lasting. It also has a nice, light mint scent, and it didn’t bleed outside of my lip lines. It works wonderfully as a nighttime treatment, though I guess that’s a waste of a pink. I wish I could I tell you how it fared through a makeout session, but alas, due to limitations in my personal life, a kissing contest is the one challenge I couldn’t pose. (Though what with this plush, pink pout, let’s hope I have an update for you soon – “clothing optional” is the product motto, after all!)
Poppy is a bright spring pink that works well with my fair to tan complexion. It’s neither as opaque as lipstick nor as sheer as a gloss. Though the Nudist makeup line isn’t expensive, Color Balm comes in a wide range of shades that will work well for most skin tones.
I used to think that “water-proof” and “safe” were as good as it could get with makeup. Now, I’m delighted to know that there are cosmetics that heal and nourish even as they get me noticed from across the room! I highly recommend this product and, if you like makeup in general, I encourage you to check out W3LL People’s website. W3LL People has some beautiful looking products that – judging by ColorBalm – should be fantastic. And the best part is you can buy samples for the bargain price of $1.50!

Summer must haves from SkinCeuticals, Jack Black, Avon and Calvin Klein!
Studies suggest that IRA penetrates the skin more deeply than UVA and UVB causing free radical damage which accelerate signs of aging. Which means not only do you need a sunscreen but also something to protect from free radicals.
No worries, SkinCeuticals has topical antioxidant serums that work below the skin's surface to neutralize UV and IRA induced free radicals that cause environmental skin damage such as fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and lost elasticity. By strengthening skin's natural defense system against free radicals not blocked by sunscreens, they help protect the epidermal and dermal layers from the inside to correct visible premature aging.
Choose from: C E Ferulic - 30ml - $152 - increases firmness and replenishes lipids to reduce wrinkles and is ideal for dry, normal and sensitive skin; or
Phloretin CF - 30ml - $160 - diminishes hyperpigmentation and accelerates cellular renewal to help retexture skin and is ideal for oily, problematic and normal skin.
And of course don't forget your sunscreen: Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 - 50ml - $39 - a weightless, mattifying fluid great for all skin types - even very sensitive, oily and acne prone! (or if you like a tint try Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 - 50ml - $39)
Available from dispensing doctors, medical spas and high-end spas. Check out www.skinceuticals.com/canada to find one near you.
Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 in Grapefruit - 7g - $8.50 - enriched with superior skin conditioners and antioxidants to soothe and relieve dry, chapped irritated lips this emollient balm penetrates quickly to provide instant relief.
Sure it's meant for men but I don't care because not only is it super moisturizing with a high SPF, it's grapefruit - and y'all know how I feel about my citrus! Because lip colour tends to just slide right off me in the warmer months, I use a lipstain (right now I am loving Pixi Lip Blush in Energy a light coral apricot shade) and then a layer of Jack Black over top. It keeps the stain from feeling dry and protects my lips from the sun - all while smelling delicious - triple win!
Available at Sephora and Holt Renfrew.
Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Icaridin - 118ml - $14 - strong and dependable protection with time-release technology that creates an invisible barrier of protection to repel mosquitoes (up to 5 hours) and deer ticks (up to 7 hours) that is DEET free and best of all, it doesn't stink!
Available from your Avon rep - 1-800-265-AVON or online at www.avon.ca
Calvin Klein CK One Summer - 100ml EDT - $58 - with top notes of waterfall effect, watermelon, crushed leaves and zesty citrus; heart notes of water lily, cucumber, caraway and watermint; and base notes of moss, blonde woods and musk - as far as I'm concerned it's not summer without CK One Summer and while this isn't my favourite edition of the scent (2011 still gets my vote for that) it is a nice refreshing, crisp and cool scent perfect for those warmer months!
Beyond The Zone Color Jamz Pro Formula Hair Color in Bubble Head Pink
This product gets a special award from me because it's the worst hair color I've ever used. I have pretty realistic expectations when it comes to beauty products, so it's rare that disappointed in anything as much as I was with this.
I bought it because it was on sale and already cheap (around $5). I'm really happy with my usual color, but I could get two bottles of this for the same price as one jar of Manic Panic, and the color looked similar in the bottle, so I figured why not?
I have two good things to say about this. One, the squeezy bottle packaging is convenient (except the texture of the color really thick and hard to squeeze out). Two, it's a pretty color right out of the bottle. Oh... And I guess it smells okay. Maybe that's three.
Other than that it has no redeeming qualities for me. Why?
- It stains everything... except my hair.
- Really, even leaving it on for five hours didn't make it stick to my hair.
- It bleeds more than any color I've ever used. Even when my hair is dry. It gets on everything.
- It dries my hair out really bad and makes it feel gross.
- It only lasts one wash before any noticeable color it deposited on my hair fades drastically or disappears altogether.
Thursday Friday Bags - Photos and Review + Giveaway!
I found out about this brand when I went to LuckyFABB and was really excited to find out more. The bags caught my eye the moment I walked in to the room. I received the Vintage Trunks Together Bag, Glamour that is pictured above and it's the cutest! I love the details on it and how big the bag is. I love that they offer all kinds of different sizes. These would be great as gifts too since they are so unique.

IT Cosmetics Can Help YOU Hide Imperfections Like a Charm--Review of Bye Bye Under Eye + Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush
Disclaimer: This post is based on free products provided by a company as a press sample so that I may offer my own opinion, which may be the same or differ from yours.
As one with year round allergies, I can tell you that it takes a serious concealing product to hide dark allergic shiners. Sometimes, the same products I use to cover my black circles just don't cut it when they act up even when taking antihistamines. Therefore, I have accumulated quite a collection because concealing is important to me. Otherwise, I could be mistaken as a human raccoon with the size of those rings around my ends.
Luckily, I found IT Cosmetics, a brand of innovative cosmetics developed along with plastic surgeons to treat skin with an anti-aging formula and beneficial ingredients while delivering beautiful color. The products that I have tried from them already have been winners so I was eager to see how well their Bye Bye Under Eye and Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush would work on an awful allergy day to keep me from scaring people.
The company was very generous to send me two shades of the Bye Bye Under Eye in Light and Neutral Medium. I am not fair but consider my skin more light with warm undertones. On me, the Light shade was a better match. The Neutral Medium is little dark for that eye area, but I can use it on the rest of my face or probably once I get into the sun.
This thick cream is waterproof and a moisturizing formula with vitamins K, A, C, E and hydrolyzed collagen to even help reduce eye puffiness because it was developed as a way to conceal facial bruising after plastic surgery.
Unlike what you normally would use when applying concealer, you only want to squeeze out an extremely tiny amount. Although you can use your finger, I really liked using that Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush with this product.
First, I applied my eye cream and then I focused that loaded brush toward the inner corners of my eyes. I spaced a few dots from the inner and outer corners and across the lower eye socket line before using my finger. Instead of rubbing, I tapped the concealer in. You might be surprised at well this method worked to distribute the concealer without thinning it out in places from your fingers. Trust me on this, you will have more success with concealer if used this way.
I liked the amount of coverage obtained while it brightened the under eye as well though it did have a slight shine. Though once you finish with foundation and the rest of your makeup, it is perfectly fine.
I can't say if it was the concealer that helped my saucer eyes that day shrink or my new antihistamine, but my eye swelling also went down later that morning. This was not drying or did it cake up for me and seemed to last a long time without ending up into my fine creases, which also impressed me.
If you have imperfections like yours truly and are looking for a great concealer and brush, I do recommend IT Cosmetics and their Bye Bye Under Eye (retails for $24) and Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush (retails for $48)! These products are also available at QVC, QVC.com, Beauty.com, Beauty 360, and the shopping channel.com in Canada.
